Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3

One of a handful of pocket megazooms announced earlier this year, the 10-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3S ($400 as of 6/29/2009) carries a 12X optical Leica zoom lens, ranging from an ultrawide-angle 25mm to 300mm on the telephoto end.

12x optical zoom; can zoom in video mode ; Great HD video options

Mode dial is finicky ; Lack of manual settings

The powerful zoom lens and features are great for casual shooters looking for versatility and oomph. Advanced photographers will be disappointed in the lack of manual controls.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 review

Like its predecessor, the Lumix DMC-TZ5 , Panasonic's Lumix DMC-ZS3 offers an interesting combination of features, including a 12x zoom lens and 720p AVCHD video capture, in an attractive, compact body. And with better photo quality, slightly faster...

Long and wide-angle zoom lens in a compact body; 720p movies; lens can zoom during movie capture.

Very few manual controls.

As long as you don't want much in the way of manual features, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 is a very nice camera that can handle a variety of shooting situations.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 (DMC-TZ7)

The original Panasonic 'Travel Zoom' TZ1 from 2006 was the first camera to combine a relatively compact body with a 10x zoom lens and in this respect is the great-grandfather of all the cameras in this test. The ZS3 (TZ7 in Europe) is the fourth...

Good image quality, intuitive user interface, decent high ISO output (for smaller prints), 25mm wide-angle, relatively fast lens at the long end (F4.9), large high-res screen, versatile movie mod

Some highlight clipping of contrasty scenes, occasionally slightly underexposed flash shot

Everything we said about the Panasonic ZS1 holds true for its sister model ZS3. The camera's metal body handles nicely and it delivers very good image quality at low ISOs and does a better job than most others in this test at higher sensitivities....

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 Review

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3

If you are in the market for a “super zoom” digital camera that features 720p video recording (in addition to high-quality stills), then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 may be right for you. The downside to owning this camera is that it is slightly...

Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ7 review

As a successor to the successful LUMIX DMC-TZ5, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TZ was launched. It is quite striking to see that the competitors have allowed Panasonic to continue expanding the success of the compact format megazoom camera for such a long...

With the launch of the Panasonic LUMIX TZ7, we were curious to see which specifications Panasonic had changed in order to continue the success of its predecessors. We were pleasantly surprised to see the amount of effective pixels kept relatively low...

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 (also known as the DMC-ZS3 in the USA) is a brand new ultra-compact super-zoom camera, offering several major improvements on its predecessor, the popular TZ5 model. There's now a 12x, 25-300mm optical zoom lens, both wider...

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 is easy to recommend to anyone looking for a compact, pocketable point-and-shoot camera that takes great photos with the added bonus of HD video. Although the DMC-TZ7 no longer has the travel zoom market to itself, with the...

Lumix DMC-ZS3

Those are the major differences between the three models. The only other thing I want to mention about that table is that the ZS1 and ZS3 actually use different sensors. The ZS1's is 10.3 million total pixels, while the ZS3's has 12.7 million

Very good photo quality ; Packs a 12X, 25 - 300 mm lens into a small, well-built package ; Optical image stabilization ; Very little barrel distortion ; Stunning 3-inch LCD display with excellent resolution and outdoor / low light visibility ; Snappy...

Images have a grainy appearance, even at lowest ISOs; still some smudging of low contrast detail ; AVCHD Lite codec makes video sharing and editing a chore (though you don't have to use it); no video viewer/editor for Mac OS included ; Can't adjust...

I think it's safe to say that Panasonic is going to sell a lot of Lumix DMC-ZS3 cameras. They've done a nice job improving on the TZ5, though I'm not really sold on the AVCHD Lite codec. A lot of people have been comparing the DMC-ZS3 to Canon's...

Review: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 digital camera

This camera's powerful zoom lens and features are great for casual shooters looking for versatility and oomph.

A zoom range like that isn't very useful if image stabilization doesn't come with it, and the Lumix DMC-ZS3 has top-notch optical stabilization. The camera is downright shake-proof, providing crystal-clear images even when I shook it around at full zoom

Panasonic DMC-ZS3

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 packs a lot of features into its small case: 1 0-megapixel resolution, a 12x zoom and high definition video capture. And we found that it has the performance to match this feature set, with sharp images and accurate color

The camera itself is small enough to fit into a pocket, but it is a little chunky at 1.29 inches deep. It fits well into the hand, and the shutter and zoom controls fall tight under the index finger when it is held in one hand. The metal skin of the...
