Pentax K2000

Priced affordably at $450 including an 18-55mm kit lens, $600 with 18-55mm and 50-200mm kit lenses, or $680 in a limited-edition white body with an 18-55mm kit lens (all as of 8/26/09), the 10.2-megapixel Pentax K2000 may tempt quite a few people to...

Easy to use, with handy help button ; Very good overall imge quality ; Easy to use, with handy help button ; Body-based image stabilization ; Body-based image stabilization

No auto-orientation sensor ; Limited control over autofocus ; Limited control over autofocus ; No auto-orientation sensor ; No video recording features ; No Live View

The K2000 is a beginner-friendly DSLR with body-based stabilization, but autofocus speed and controls are drawbacks.

Pentax K2000

Very fast autofocus; relatively nice viewfinder; wireless flash and in-body image stabilization.

No Live View mode; poor default JPEG image settings.

Speedy performance lifts the Pentax K2000 above the cheap-dSLR masses, but bad default settings make it an iffy choice for newbies.

Review: Pentax K2000 digital SLR camera

Priced affordably, Pentax's 10.2-megapixel K2000 may tempt quite a few people to jump into the digital SLR pool.

That’s especially true if you have a collection of Pentax lenses, as this camera accepts any lens from the Pentax line (keep in mind, though, that you may have to focus legacy lenses manually). Pentax has also retained in-body image stabilization, so...

The Pentax K2000; A Great Entry-Level D-SLR

Beginning with the launch of the Asahiflex I in 1952, Pentax (PENTAprism refleX) was the first SLR that incorporated a penta-prism viewfinder and reflex mirror. Along the way the company has produced cameras from the legendary LX to the indestructible...

The K2000's ergonomics are similarly comfortable to those of the K100D. It's a small camera that fits my medium-sized paws; photographers with smaller hands, such as my wife Mary, felt comfortable using it, too. I couldn't find any cold weather...

Pentax K2000

For those interested in moving up to a digital SLR without making too deep a dent in the wallet, the Pentax K2000 is a very appealing choice. Priced at $599.99 including a lens and an external flash unit, the 10.2-megapixel K2000 is a solidly built...

The Pentax K2000 is small and very portable, weighing in at just a little over a pound with the included 18-55mm lens attached, but it doesn't have the insubstantial, toy-like feel we've experienced with some compact SLRs. The grip is better suited to...

Pentax K2000

A good step up from point-and-shoots, with surprising customizability for enthusiasts

Solid noise performance; Generally impressive resolution scores

Poor color accuracy; Some hardware disappointments

While price isn’t a factor in our testing procedures, that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate a solid value when we see one, and that’s very much the case with the Pentax K2000. It incorporates ease-of-use features such as sophisticated autoexposure...
