Ricoh Caplio R30 review

Wider and more telescopic, the R30 has a good zoom range

Good optical zoom range ; Excellent finish ; 26MB of internal memory

Poor image quality ; High image noise ; Colour rendition not even accurate

Good zoom, average images

Ricoh Caplio R30

Ricoh isn't one of the best-known names in digital photography, but it's produced a number of decent models. The company also has a good track record for value, introducing an 8Mp (megapixel) compact last summer that broke the £300 barrier. The R30 is...

Shake issues aside, this is an impressive camera – we liked its macro and wide-angle features. The Caplio R30 is easy to get to grips with and has plenty of onscreen customisation and information about settings.

Ricoh Caplio R30

While it may not have a single standout feature, the R30 is a solid performer in a crowded 5 megapixel digital camera market.

Small enough to carry around in your pocket ; Customisable LCD screen ; 5.7x optical zoom lens ; High sensitivity and skew correction modes ; Good battery life ; Controls consistent with those of past Ricoh models

No support for USB 2.0 ; Full-press auto mode yields blurry images

Being familiar with some past Ricoh models, it's also noticeable that not a great deal has changed on the Ricoh LCD interface over the last year or two. While some might interpret that as a lack of innovation, we see it as a case of 'if it ain't broke,...

Ricoh Caplio R30

Wide-angle and teleconverters are available for compact cameras, but they're usually a poor substitute for a good optical zoom range - which happens to be the Caplio R30's strongest point.

Good optical zoom range, Excellent finish, 26MB of internal memory

Poor image quality, High image noise, Colour rendition not even accurate

Good zoom, average images

Ricoh Caplio R30

Ricoh doesn't believe a decent optical zoom should compromise the pocketability of its digital cameras.

This camera takes good-quality shots, has a powerful zoom and is reasonably easy to point and shoot with.

Ricoh Caplio R30

Ricoh i my pocket. Just kidding. Every time when i want to take any photo i insert my hand in my pocket and get out with caplio R30. Great results and one thing that i like very much is its battery timing.

Small size attractive camera ; Gives good results in photo shoot ; Battery timing is enough

Sensitive parts in this camera so take very much care of this little gem
