Ricoh CX3 Review

The Ricoh CX3 is a brand new point-and-shoot compact camera featuring a 10.7x, 28-300mm zoom lens in a body less than 3cms thick. Successor to the 6-month old CX2 model, the Ricoh CX3 incorporates a 10 megapixel back-illuminated sensor and an enhanced...

As with its predecessor, there's a certain sense of deja-vu about the CX3, coming so soon after the near-identical CX2 model. Current CX owners will feel somewhat aggrieved at Ricoh's aggressive release strategy, but would-be purchasers of a fast,...

Ricoh CX3 Review

Just about every camera maker now has a super zoom compact out in the market, but Ricoh were one of the earlier camera companies to have longer zoom models in the shape of the ?Capilio R? models. Over time the R series turned into the ?CX? series of...

Ricoh CX3 digital camera

A 10-megapixel Ricoh compact camera with a 10.7x zoom lens

Well built, very good picture quality, excellent manual focus, useful and fun filters

No HDMI, noticeable noise in photos at high ISO speeds, can be difficult to use in bright sunlight

Ricoh's CX3 isn't much of an upgrade over the CX2 but it does offer HD video recording, which makes it a useful hybrid for people wishing to shoot stills and video with the same camera. Its pictures are a little noisy and it can struggle in bright...

Ricoh CX3

Ricoh's high-performance zoom compact now comes with HD video

Impeccable build quality ; Very fast ; Very fast

Low quality 3200 ISO setting ; No manual exposure controls ; Occasional over-exposure

The Ricoh CX3 is only a minor upgrade of the CX2, but the improved performance, HD video recording and marginally better image quality ensure that it can still compete with its more popular rivals. Build quality, handling and ease of use are all...

Ricoh CX3 compact camera

Ricoh might not make the coolest looking digital compacts - in fact, design wise, they're uniformly rather drab. But at least the manufacturer channels its efforts towards where it matters most, namely the cameras' image quality plus useful wide-angle...

Broad, creatively expansive focal range thanks to implementation of 10.7x optical zoom, excellent LCD visibility due to higher resolution screen that isn't normally found in its class

Priced at a slight premium for what it is, basically, a point and shoot camera, introduced very soon after the relatively identical CX2

So while the Ricoh CX3 may look prim, proper and just a little bit boring from the outside, start to strip away its layers and it turns into a bit of a tiger. Having such a big zoom and resulting broad focal range in a small-ish camera is a real boon,...

Ricoh CX3

HD video recording. Excellent LCD display. Excellent macro mode.

No manual controls. No RAW capture.

Ricoh has finally hit the nail on the head with the CX3, it has the right balance between features, performance and affordability.

Ricoh CX3 review

The lens isn't as sharp as on other compact ultra-zoom cameras, and the high price means it's not particularly good value, either.

Ricoh CX3 review

At 205g, the Ricoh CX3 is at the slightly weighty end of digital cameras that earn the compact name. And measuring 100x59x28mm, it's also a little fatter than the norm. But with a generous 10.7 optical zoom from the 28-300mm lens, and 10-megapixel...

The Ricoh CX3 is a solidly constructed digital compact with a powerful zoom and reliable imaging skills. It’s also relatively easy to operate, thanks to a good layout of sufficient hard buttons to get you to the essentials, while the LCD display and...

Ricoh CX3 review

Ricoh's latest compact packs a new sensor promising low-light loveliness. Is it the ultimate ‘night out' compact?

A low-light maestro with plenty more besides, but may be a little too heavyweight for some
