Samsung's 10 megapixel NV10 reviewed

About three months ago we were graced with a wonderful preview of the new Samsung NV10, and today we came across a review of the digicam that we thought would be a $400 bundle of 10 megapixel joy. However, while we were initially blinded by the slick...

Samsung NV10 review

Samsung created the NV-series of digital cameras to fulfill its need for stylish, high-end shooters. They can be easily recognized by their sleek black designs, blue-ringed lenses, and, in every case but last year's NV3 , their unusual interface....

This digital camera has decent image quality, relatively quick performance, and full manual controls.

Smart Touch interface isn't for everyone; No aperture/shutter priority mode; fringing plagues photos.

If you can get past its unusual interface and sluggish performance, the Samsung NV10 is a nice digital snapshot camera with some great manual features.

Samsung NV10

A promising start for Samsung's new NV series of cameras.

Wonderful touch-sensitive interface. Good image quality. Stylish design. Very good video clips.

A bit pricey. Some extraneous or unnecessary features. High ISO displays too much noise. Slow boot-up.

Samsung NV10 DIGITAL CAMERA

For the price of the Samsung NV10 ($350 as of 10/6/06), you could get a lot more for your money. This compact point-and-shoot, though attractive, doesn't offer a lot of features beyond its 10.1-megapixel resolution. Its zoom is a typical 3X, its...

Touch-sensitive navigation buttons ; Antishake mode on control dial

Low battery life; lacks manual controls ; Menu navigation can be cumbersome

This camera has touch-sensitive buttons and antishake, but it lacks many manual controls, and menu navigation is cumbersome.

Samsung NV10

If you're new to digital photography you may wish to read the DigitalPhotography Glossary before diving into this article (it may helpyou understand some of the terms used).

Very good resolution and decent sharpness (though see below) ; Very detailed results at ISO 100-200 (fairly low noise reduction) ; Bright, punchy results out of camera; perhaps too punchy for many ; Slim all-metal body ; Superb build and finish, very...

Contrast and Saturation way too high - no way to change them in-camera ; Some fall-off in sharpness at edges / corners ; Shutter lag and focus not as fast as best competitors (not bad though) ; Strong visible chroma noise at ISO 400+ (very mild noise...

Samsung is rapidly catching up with its Japanese rivals and is finally starting to make its mark on the digital camera market with a combination of aggressive pricing, appealing styling and a dash of genuine innovation (such as the NV10's smart touch...

Test: Samsung NV10

The 3x Schneider-Kreuznach zoom (35-105mm equivalent) on the 10.1-megapixel Samsung NV10 (street $290) bulges out from the black aluminum body, as if to say "this isn't your typical point-and-shoot." Turn the camera around and you'll see something...

Samsung NV10 Review and Prices

Samsung has definitely achieved one thing with its NV10 ultra-compact digital camera model: The look of the NV10 is very different from other models in this class and price range.

High resolution, unique look, unique menu structure, high-quality LCD, high-quality construction, easy to hold for ultra-compact model

Image quality is inconsistent, low-light photos tend to be noisy, some aspects of camera might be tough to learn to use, most camera features are only average, anti-shake doesn't work as well as it should
