With its revolutionary Foveon X3 sensor, the DP2s promises DSLR-like image quality in a compact camera

Sigma DP2s digital camera

Sigma's DP2s is a high-end 14.6-megapixel compact aimed at the enthusiast and updates the original DP2. Improvements have been made but some quirks from its predecessor remain. The Sigma DP2s provides a well made but quirky compact package for the...

Good image quality, bags of detail, robust all-metal design, improved AF system, lens, powerful RAW processor included

Limited sensitivity range, price, no optical viewfinder, underpowered flash, muted colour, quirky menu controls, sluggish handling

The Sigma DP2s provides a well made but quirky compact package for the enthusiast despite it being one that has some slight white balance issues that need addressing, perhaps by a firmware update in the near future?

Sigma DP2s review

The Sigma DP2s produces stunning images, but it's a difficult camera to use and is under-featured compared to its competitors.

Sigma DP2s review

The Sigma DP2s follows hot on the heels of the DP2, and promises a fantastic image quality and improvements on its predecessor. Does it succeed?

Added highlights to the buttons on the rear of the camera, slight improvement in AF speed, retro design

Very high price-tag, fixed lens not to everyone's taste

Sigma DP2s

We review the Sigma DP2S - a solid performer which can take excellent images, but is priced perhaps a little too high for most non-professionals

Overall the Sigma DP2s is a solid and good model that takes excellent images however its target audience in the market space is small and will only attract a few photographers

REVIEW—SIGMA DP2S compact camera]

This is the latest implementation of the 14 megapixel Foveon sensor technology in a Sigma camera. The Foveon differs from a conventional digital sensor in the way in which it filters and captures the red, green and blue light. For a full description of...

The image quality is generally better than from a conventional compact camera because the sensor area is much larger. Preserved detail, such as hair and skin texture, is superior. Colour is pleasing if a little different from other cameras, rather like...

This is a noisy camera — in the audible rather than the image sense. Every person we have pointed the camera at has commented on the alarming grinding noise of the slow autofocus

The Sigma DP2S is hard to categorise and impossible to compare because of its unique approach to image capture. Making a comparison by price matches it against either a top conventional compact such as the Canon G 11 or one of the Olympus/Panasonic...

Sigma DP2s Review

Sigma's DP2s is a high-end 14.6-megapixel compact aimed at the enthusiast and updates the original DP2. Improvements have been made but some quirks from its predecessor remain. Doug Harman investigates.

Good image quality, bags of detail, robust all-metal design, Improved AF system, Lens, Powerful RAW processor included

Limited sensitivity range, Price, No optical viewfinder, Underpowered flash, Muted colour, Quirky menu controls, Sluggish handling

The superbly sharp and distortion free lens combined with a direct image X3 sensor capable of capturing a stunning amount of detail means that while this camera may not be for everyone, has a few slight issues and looks quite pricey, those that do love...

Sigma DP2s

A compact, advanced digital camera with a large Foveon X3 Direct Image Sensor and few automated functions. There's very little difference between the Sigma DP2, which was released in April 2009 and the DP2s, which was announced in February 2010. The...

Sigma appears to have tweaked several performance criteria in the 13 months since we reviewed the DP2 as the review camera produced better results in most of our Imatest tests. The richness of the colour from the Foveon sensor remains the most...
