Sony joins the 50x club with the HX300

The 24-1,200mm lens on the HX300 covers an impressive range and, thankfully, its image stabilization is top-notch, too.

The ; has strong image stabilization to back up its 50x zoom lens; excellent picture quality for its class; and a large assortment of shooting options for all levels of photographers.

The HX300's 20-megapixel sensor doesn't translate into better picture quality. It doesn't have a hot shoe, GPS, or Wi-Fi built in. Captures JPEG only, no raw.

It can't match some of its competition in the features department, but the Sony Cyber-shot HX300 still packs a powerful zoom lens and plenty of point-and-shoot punch.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX300 Preview

Sony has announced the DSLR-styled "Megazoom" Cyber-Shot DSC-HX300. The 20.4 megapixel CMOS image sensor pairs with an astounding 50x optical zoom. With a reach like that, you'll be thankful Sony has made its Optical SteadyShot image stabilization...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 Review

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 is a new super-zoom camera that features a 50x, 24-1200mm zoom lens, 20.4 megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, 1920x1080 50p Full HD video recording with stereo sound and HDMI output, and Sweep Panoramas and 3D...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 is a rather modest update of last year's HX200V model, principally adding a bigger 50x zoom and slightly more megapixels. This doesn't feel like enough of a step forward though, especially as most of our criticisms of the...

Sony HX300 Review

Boasting an incredible 50x optical zoom (24-1,200mm equivalent) reach, the all-in-one Sony HX300 showcases one of the most versatile built-in lenses we've ever tested. This bridge camera's relatively small 1/2.3-inch imaging sensor means its image...

Super-versatile 50x optical zoom lens helps you capture everything from wide-angle cityscapes to zoomed in portraits from what feels like a mile away; Still quite light and portable considering the powerful lens; Comfortable and ergonomic design; Full...

Relatively small, 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor delivers average image quality that degrades quickly at high sensitivities; Images not as sharp or as bright at full telephoto as we had hoped; Slow camera to use overall.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX300 Review

The new 20 megapixel Cyber-shot DSC HX300 replaces the HX200 in Sony's ultra-zoom line-up. When I was a kid we watched Sci-Fi movies and read Sci-Fi novels that predicted all the new inventions that would make our lives more fun in the future. One of...

Excellent image quality, Exemplary handgrip, Fast f2.8 maximum aperture

Sony Cyber-shot HX300

The Sony Cyber-shot HX300 is Sony's flagship super-zoom. Styled like a DSLR, it sits above the HX200 which remains in the line up, sharing many of the same features, but extending the zoom to an impressive 50x with a 35mm equivalent range of 24-1200mm....

Huge 50x 24-1200mm zoom range ; Excellent optical image stabilisation ; Articulated 3 inch LCD screen ; Dial mode focus/zoom lens ring

No wifi or GPS option ; Lacks eye sensor for EVF ; Lacks built-in ND filter ; Lacks RAW shooting mode ; Limited customisation options

The Cyber-shot HX300 is a camera designed with one purpose in mind - to provide an extraordinarily long zoom range. To look at it another, more cynical way, it's Sony's competition for the Canon SX50 HS. There's no denying that having a hugely powerful...

Sony Cyber-shot HX300

Superzoom cameras across various brands have been crafting out their own individual points of interest of late. Sony's angle, it would seem, is all about resolution: the Cyber-shot HX300 pairs a brand new 50x optical zoom lens - capable of a 24-1200mm...

f/2.8 aperture at the wide-angle setting, manual zoom and focus ring, considerable zoom range, decent optical stabilisation system, close-up macro mode (at wide-angle settings) works a treat, tilt-angle LCD has its uses, electronic viewfinder helps to...

Image quality is trying to do too much, even low ISO shots suffer from excessive processing artefacts, no raw capture, pricey, overexposure can be a problem, camera won't always opt to use acceptable shutter speeds with auto ISO, no automatic...

The Sony Cyber-shot HX300 is a quality superzoom camera from a use and performance point of view, but its high-resolution image sensor drops the ball when it comes to image quality finery. We've achieved some cracking shots using the camera - and that...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 Review

We got our hands on Sony's latest flagship, the Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 with 50x optical zoom. Let's find out how exciting it is.

Priced at an MRP of Rs 25,990, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 is the most affordable super-zoom digital camera with 50x optical zoom. But that doesn’t mean it’s best value for money. You don’t get hot-shoe for external flash, RAW support, fully...
