A pricey slice of photographic heaven

Sony's full-frame Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 delivers super imagery, if you're willing to pay.

Great photo and good video quality in a camera with a nicely functional and fluid shooting design are the ; 's highlights.

It lacks a viewfinder, autofocus is sluggish, and there's no focus peaking in video mode.

With a terrific lens and a great full-frame sensor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 delivers the best photos we've seen from a fixed-lens camera. But that doesn't come cheap.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 is the smallest full-frame camera you can get, and while it pumps out gorgeous images, its price is likely to induce sticker shock.

Full-frame image sensor. Extremely sharp lens. Excellent high ISO performance. Fast burst shooting. Short shutter lag. Fast f/2 aperture. 1080p60 video capture. Top-notch control layout.

Expensive, and accessories are very pricey. No zoom capability. Slow to start and shoot. Lens shows some barrel distortion. No built-in viewfinder. External battery charger not included.

Sony RX1: Lab Test Results & Comments

The RX1 is the first time Sony has combined a compact camera system with a fixed lens system that includes a full-frame sensor that's nearly the size of classic 35mm film material (35.8x23.9mm).
