Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II premium superzoom offers serious video upgrades, but it's priced a bit higher than it should be.

Sharp f/2.8 zoom lens. 1-inch image sensor. Very fast autofocus. 12.5fps burst shooting. Tilting rear display. Excellent EVF. Solid control layout. Wi-Fi and NFC. High-def slow-motion mode. 4K recording.

Autofocus inconsistent in HFR mode. Shorter zoom range than others in this class. External battery charger not included. Pricey.

Conclusions I was extremely pleased with the original version of the RX10 thanks to its balance of size, image quality, zoom range, and its excellent close focus capability. When it first went on sale it sold for as much as the RX10 II—the RX10's price...

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II review

The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II is the follow-up to the original RX10 bridge camera and shares the same magnesium alloy, twin-dial body design and fast, sharp 24-200mm F2.8 equiv. lens.

RX aeternus? Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II review

The Sony RX10 II is the follow-up to a camera we already thought quite highly of. While the 24-200mm F2.8 equivalent lens and external body design remain unchanged, the RX10 II sports a new stacked sensor and can record 4k video internally, with full...

Bridge cameras have always been interesting beasts; generally able to do it all, just not always particularly well. But with the launch of the original Cyber-shot RX10 and Panasonic's Lumix DMC-FZ1000 in 2014, this category of cameras morphed into...

Sony DSC-RX10M2

Sony has announced two new high-end RX-series point-and-shoot cameras for 2015. Meaning, these digicams may not have interchangeable lenses, but their performance specifications best many entry-to-mid-level DSLRs and Mirrorless ILCs.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II Review

The Sony RX10 II is a high-end bridge camera that uses a larger than normal 1-inch sensor to achieve superior image quality. The sensor itself is an upgrade over that in the original RX10, as despite being the same physical size and 20.2MP resolution,...

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 II could be considered the most complete all-in-one camera on the market. Where most bridge cameras offer little more than an oversized lens, the RX10 II blends a useful zoom range with a wide aperture, a larger than...

Sony RX10 II Review

Two years after its predecessor invented the large-sensor, long-zoom category, the Sony RX10 II is here to take things to the next level. It aims to replace your bulky interchangeable-lens camera with a veritable Swiss Army knife compendium of...

Excellent build quality; Superb viewfinder; Excellent image and video quality for its class; Bright and versatile zoom lens; Very fast autofocus; Great burst performance and depth; Incredible slow-motion capabilities; Really intuitive Wi-Fi image...

Expensive compared to its nearest competitors; Less zoom reach than rivals; Soft in corners wide-open; Slow buffer clearing; Small rear control dial has poor tactile feedback; Long delay to render each high frame-rate movie; No tilt/swivel or touch on...

Sony RX10 II review

The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II is a high-end bridge camera with an 8.3x / 24-200mm zoom, constant f2.8 aperture and a 20 Megapixel sensor that's larger than those in most rival cameras. Announced in June 2015, it's the successor to the original RX10 which...

Sony DSC-RX100M II Review (Editor's Choice)

The Sony DSC-RX100M II is the best pocket camera money can buy. While it may look like ‘just' a point-and-shoot camera, the RX100M II is a mobile photography powerhouse that will please both amateur and pro shooters.

Though I’ve only had the Sony DSC-RX100M II for a few days it’s become my go-to mobile camera. The RX100M II is a definitely worth the $100 premium over the RX100, which Sony continues to sell. While the RX100 M II’s $749 price tag may sound like a...

Sony RX10 II

The Sony RX10 II is a dream camera for many. It combines great general image quality with incredible video skills, super-rapid shooting speed and a lens that offers both a wide zoom range and constant max aperture of f/2.8 throughout.

Versatile, high-quality lens ; Good image quality ; Good manual control ; Excellent speed and slo-mo video skills

Expensive, especially against RX10 ; Limited display tilt usefulness

Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II review: One serious superzoom

The Sony Cyber-shot RX10 II is, just like its predecessor, a camera that's going to divide opinion. On paper its 24-200mm f/2.8 equivalent lens and 1-inch sensor combination sounds like the bees knees. Until, that is, you see the physical size of this...

Constant f/2.8 aperture and great lens quality, physical aperture ring control, weather-sealed pro-spec construction, fast autofocus and decent close-up ability, great tilt-angle LCD and built-in electronic viewfinder, ace slow-mo and 4K video capture

Limited upgrades compared to original model, no touchscreen controls, lens slow to travel through zoom, focus selector positioning not ideal, maximum focal length limitations, no pinpoint or more complex autofocus options, it’s really expensive

We've been living with the RX10 II in the real-world and keep questioning its suitability for a mass audience and its considerable price point acting as a barrier. Who would buy it?
