LG DR4812W DVD Recorder

LG's inexpensive DVD recorder makes a great entry point for anyone pondering upgrading from the humble family VCR.

Multi-format DVD recording; thumbnails on DVD+/-RW recording

No Timeskip, some units reported with sound/recording faults

The DR4812W's isn't the absolute cutting edge in DVD recorders -- it can't do the timeskipping tricks that hard drive enabled players can, for a start -- but what it is is a great introduction to DVD recorders; it's capable and easy enough to use with...

Terrible

I was very disappointed by this unit. I found that a lot of the time the DVD's would not play and that this unit was particularly sensutive. We managed to go through 3 of these in less than 12 months- each one was replaced with a new one until I...

Expensive, we went through 3 of these in less than a year. It could not stand up to the use of kids -who were not as gentle as they could have been but still I expected far more for the price paid.

Terrible

It takes too long to read the hard disk. Most of the time it cannot read the DVD When it works the picture is good. But overall LG stands for "LOW GRADE" crap. If you buy an LG product, you need help - but you won't get it from LG. Sony is not much...

OK

I believe they could of gone cheaper since the machine is pretty slow to load up and read discs. Not very good customer service, could potentially be a good unit but LG needs to sort out its few problems.

Reasonable price, records both + and - format, easy menu system, easy to learn and use, aesthetic, slim body, great sleek design and finish, good features, great colours and it is easy to setup and record. Good variety of input formats.

Slower than expected startup, locked up once, remote is very big, titles basic, timer recording by start time and x minutes, doesnt seem to work with TDK-RW disks (pretty annoying).
