TiVo Series2 DT hands-on review

We got our chance to have a little private time with TiVo's new 80-hour dual-tuner Series2 (TCD649080) last week. There isn't a whole lot we can tell you about the unit that you didn't already know (dual analog tuners, single digital, no CableCARD, no...

TiVo Series 2

For TV junkies, a TiVo or similar device is a must. And if you just want to record TV and don't want the expense or complexity of a Media Center Edition PC, a TiVo is the way to go.

TiVo TCD649080 Series2 DVR Review and Prices

Unlike earlier Series2 models, the TiVo TCD649080 DVR can record to two different shows at the same time, a feature that was previously unique to the DirecTV DVR units. Unfortunately, the convenience of this feature is severely limited due to the fact...

Good for old Technology

This device has been great for my wife as she tents to be a little more low tech than I am. She could navigate through it and grab items from the pc with no assistance. this made it a great product, I'm very picky when I'm charged a subscription fee...

Get for interfacing with movies downloaded on a PC

Tivo sucks at keeping up with any changes you cable provider may make to your channel line up, even if you inform them of all of the changes. I still have several channels missing that were added changed over a year ago

Best way to watch TV

If you are thinking about going high definition then get the new Tivo HD.

Best recorder on the market for regular definition TV. Easy to use. Best search features. Price is great for a Tivo. Has Tivo unique features like scheduling via the web and shaing content with your PC via a network

Does not do high definition. Only works with a few models of wireless USB LAN devices. Besure to check before buying if you are going that way

Rebate/Service Caution

This is a good device as long as you keep in mind that you won't get much other than live TV control if you only purchase the physical TiVo.

Great at what it does. If you buy the service you will have all features listed and they all seem to work well. Interface is smooth and simple, the device seems to do what it does well

You CANNOT record a show to the hard drive without purchasing TiVo's service, although I can't see why this is necessary. Also, rebates on this item from TiVo generally require activation of the service, which must be activated for at least a year to...

Best DVR I Think?

Greatest DVR interface of all.

I've had 5 Tivos in a year and a half, 4 of them either didn't work rght out of the box or died shortly after setup.

Well, it's TiVo.

Upgrading this model was very straightforward - went from a 40hr TiVo to 270 hr for the price of an 80hr model, with little effort and about 3-4 hours of time.

It's TiVo, so there isn't too much to be said. Regarding this model specifically - the Series2's new features are very useful, especially TiVo Desktop. Operations in general are very straight forward and easy to work with

The only cons in my opinion are paid subscription for scheduling and (relatively weak and non-invasive) DRM on shows transferred from TiVo with TiVo2Go ; But, those are very small negatives against a very mature and well-done product
