Topfield TF6000PVRt

Topfield's PVR line improves with the TF6000PVRt, but the wireless capability and general setup could still do with some improvement.

Good PVR functions ; Can add lots of cool functions with TAPs ; Wirelessly update ICEGuide ; Dual Tuners

Setup can be frustrating and/or buggy ; Some instability with program signals ; Standard Definition tuners only ; No HDMI

The TF6000PVRt represents a nice evolution of the TF5000PVRt model, although if you've already got one of the existing boxes the addition of wireless may not be enough of a carrot to make the upgrade worthwhile, especially with the wireless...

Topfield TF6000PVRt

You don't need Altair to upload ICE guide or other TAPs on the 6000 (contary to the Engrish Manual). You just use the web interface and copy it to the startup folder on your Topfield.

Wifi ; ICE guide = TiVo ; Even my Techno-hater-but-TV-loving-wife can use it

ICE guide sometimes gets muddled up with the current programs. A re-download of guide info and a reboot fixes it though. Still has a few other little quirks, which are annoying. I bought this over a HTPC to avoid quirks

The latest firmware for the TF6000PVRt solves the locking up problem when entering IceTV info. I think the free IceTV subscription is 3 months, not 6. Also, the TF5000PVRt series do not need the NetGear addition to use IceTV. That's only needed if you...
