Ryze Tello

The Ryze Tello is a toy quadcopter flyable via smartphone or laptop (using Scratch). Its video quality isn't anything to write home about, but it's a fun tech toy and learning tool.

Inexpensive. Easy to fly. Programmable via Scratch. Bluetooth remote control compatibility. Automated flight modes.

Pixelated, low-quality video. Limited control range. No GPS or return-to-home capability.

The Ryze Tello isn't for serious video work or long-distance flight, but that's okay. There are plenty of capable, and more expensive, drones out there that scratch that itch, such as the DJI Mavic Air. Instead it addresses an underserved market: folks...

The Ryze Tello is a budget learner drone that can shoot 720p video. Is it still best beginner drone you can buy right now?

Responsive flight controls Good battery life Lightweight, compact build

Choppy video No stability in wind Low control range

The Tello flies beautifully but a limited range and inability to deal with wind restrict its aerial capabilities. Its video camera isn't great, but decent battery life and a simple app make it appealing as a first drone.

HD video recording ; EZ Shots are a fun introduction to drone-tography ; It does somersaults! ; Packed with advanced flight tech ; Very easy to control
