Costly, minor bugs in the EPG

If you can afford it, the Panasonic DMR-BW500 is a wonderful addition to any high definition home entertainment setup. It offers dual HD tuners, a 500GB hard disk and Blu-ray writing capabilities making it a perfect all purpose device.

Feature-packed. High quality recordings. Excellent Blu-ray playback. Advanced audio support. 500GB capacity.

Expensive. Burnt discs may not play on other devices. Not very intuitive.

The Panasonic DMR-BW500 is Australia's first Blu-ray recorder and while it isn't a bargain, it is one of the most feature complete PVRs on the market.

Now that Blu-ray has won the format war and recorders are hitting the shelves, Panasonic's DMR-BW500 HDD/Blu-ray recorder with twin HD TV tuners is looking mighty nice indeed. For high-def buffs this is one with the lot.

This is a sleek product that is great when singing and dancing but unfortunately the admission tickets to the show are expensive, particularly as the show next door is as good and half the price

Price is the biggest barrier to entry and for $2,100 one can buy a 17" Blu-ray notebook or a Beyonwiz PVR at half the price

Panasonic DMR-BW500 Blu-ray Recorder

 

This is really partly a reply to the review on the DMR-BW500. It's also meant to help people who wan to buy a Panasonic blu-ray recorder.

This machine let's you record subtitles (closed captions) on hard drive as well as Blu-ray discs! It is a second generation recorder, so no need to fear teething problems

Closed captions can only be recorded on hard drive and Blu-ray, not on DVD. Programming direct to BD or DVD is not possible

I was realy weiry on the subject of the newest recording media but loved the idea of having a bluray player / recorder/ PVR w/500Gb HDD an almost tivo with twin HD tuner all in one unit,

An absolutely fantastic recording device, I've had this baby since it was released and still to this day it has performed brilliantly especially with my TH-P50V10A Neo plasma panel using Viera-link;)

Non that I can think of only that you cannot record directly to a bd-re/bd-r or dvd-r/+r,+rw,-rw recordings must must happen primarily on the HDD but it does'nt matter the quality is outstanding also you cannot record a High Definition signal from an...

I got a DMR-BW500 from Myer $1580, late july09.My TV and HD camcorder are panasonic also. They all work together really well! This blueray recorder is THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER BOUGHT!!! Admittedly most of the features that i enjoy using on this...

You can do so much with it

have had this recorder for some time and since new it has had a bug where it fails to record timer scheduled programmes. It just keeps blinking. After many calls to panasonic they have finally admitted its a fault but wont do anything to fix it.
