Philips DVP3960 Review and Prices

A budget priced DVD player, the Philips DVP3960 has enough features to function as the primary player in your entertainment system, yet inexpensive enough to use as a second DVD player in a bedroom, kids' room or kitchen. As well as progressive scan,...

Inexpensive, HDMI upscaling to 1080i, DivX compatible, Slim, compact design

Lack DTS audio support, an S-Video out connection, and an optical digital audio output, unimpressive remote control

Read you mauals

For the money and quality of sound/picture, this player is a steal. Buy it now with no worries.

The fact that this DVD player plays just about anything you put in it makes this player a steal at this price. Don't believe the other reviews about not having a FWD, RWD, or SLOW on remote. They are there but are just not labeled. Common sense and...

Yeah the startup may be a little slow but common(a minute). Just shows how spoiled we are these days. I guess some other cons are that it doesn't cook dinner for me or tuck me in at night

Ok player

Overall I have been disappointed and would not recommend this DVD player. For some reason the remote feels like it should be pointing in the other direction. I have picked it up and tried to use it upside down several times after only glancing at it....

Mute. Plays DIVX and VCDs (have not tested) ; I have not had any playing or reading issues with this player

Several second delay after power on before device is usable while it boots the firmware ; DVD's take several seconds to load and begin playing when inserted ; Player does not allow skipping in all chapters (Like logos or advertisements) ; Remote is not...

Nice DVD Player for the Price

Btw, yes it does have rewind, fast forward, and slow motion functions. To use these, just use the same arrow keys that you use to navigate DVD menus. Also, it does take a little time to load up (clocked at 45 seconds), but it takes me about that much...

Upscaling to 1080i really makes the picture much better on a HDTV. Has a low profile design, easy to navigate set up menus, lots of options, upgradable firmware, and an intuitive remote layout

No optical audio output, but DHMI to TV, and then optical from TV solved this

Not the best, but not bad at all

there ARE buttons for FastForward/Rewind/Slowmotion*** (the 4 menu select buttons at the top of the remote, {the circle})and you even can eject disc by holding the stop button.....the other reviewer who is missing these features needed to read the...

Small, Simple design, HDMI up sampling, like and trust Philip's TVs and Home theater Electronics, remote is full featured, you just have to point it DIRECTLY at the sensor it seems

No S-Video or Optical Audio out, Remote Range Effectiveness, Slow Start up, got it a little cheaper locally, OPEN Button WILL NOT TURN ON THE PLAYER- a minor annoyance you Must turn it on first

Just the right touch of everything

Simple remote, small profile, big options (changing resolution from 480P to 1080i mid movie is easy), great picture, and plays anything you throw at it SVCD, DivX, MPEG4, etc... The upscaling is icing on the cake. Worth the money to invest before...

Awesome DVD DiVX player

This thing is awesome... it plays anything I throw at it. From VCD/SVCD to downloaded .avi on a DVD, or CD, its just great! The HDMI capability along with progressive scan make this a top of the line player at a blue light special price. The digital...

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Don't expect the best at this price.

If it had fast forward and fast rewind, I would have given it 5 stars for the value at that price.

HDMI out. Can change between resolutions while watching a movie. Improved picture from a non-upconverting DVD player. Cheap

There is no fast forward, rewind, or slow buttons. That means if someone says something and you miss it, you have to scan back to the previous chapter. That surprised me as I haven't seen a DVD player without that feature in 8 years. Very slow to turn...

Love This DVD Player!

I love, love, love this DVD player. It may sound like a silly reason, but the main reason that I love it so much is that it's so cheap. It seems like every DVD player we have bought over the last eight years has self destructed after about a year. I ...

It's cheap!

It freezes up sometimes.
