Samsung DVD-HD860 review

Samsung's DVD-HD860 is essentially aimed at owners of high-definition displays who want to maximize the performance of their existing DVD collection. The player features an integrated video scaler that converts ordinary DVD films to high-definition...

HDMI video scaling; compact design; easy to use; excellent performance for the price.

Upscaled 1080i performance.

Samsung's DVD-HD860 is an upscaling DVD player that will breathe a new lease of life into DVD films for owners of high-definition flat screens. And the competitive price makes it an absolute steal

Stay away

Some DVDs will not load properly, but a simply eject and re-load will normally correct the problem. Overall, a very problematic DVD player that doesn't deserve the time of day. I was much happier with my older Sony model (DVP-NS400D) that this one was...

It looks nice

1080i output is unimpressive. The system will reset ALL of the settings (i.e. audio output signal, display resolution) if it goes in to standby or is turned off. INCREDIBLY long start-up/load times - it takes the player a good minute to boot-up, and...

SAMSUNG DVD-HD860 Hi-Def Conversion DVD Player

The dvd player itself is very veyr nice. It looks nice, hooks up to my Samsung TV with an HDMI cable, and when it is working properly it does it's job well. The big thing that is irking me right now is that if the player has been off for a few hours...

Looks cool

Requires a restart to work properly for me

Glitchy

First samsung product in a long while I have been this disappointed with.

Sleek looking unit, picture quality as expected

Had to disable all onscreen messages (including rewind/ffwd indicators) because I am using HDMI (required for the upconvert) for video and optical to my receiver, which gives a "HDMI AUDIO NOT SUPPORTED" message across the screen the whole time. Also I...

SAMSUNG DVD-HD860 Hi-Def Conversion DVD Player

This is a very nice design and small unit easy for storing anywhere

I didn't see any difference whether it was on 480 or 1080. Either way looks a little blurry and sometimes skips

Worth the Money

looking at this and then at blu-ray and HD/HVD makes me think that blu-ray is bad investment

makes all your DVD's HD quality for lots less than blu Ray or HDDVD output is 720p

Samsung known for LCDs, not DVD players

After connecting the player to my new 32" Samsung LCD TV via HDMI, I was immediately disappointed by the output quality. The picture looked digitally compressed, as if the video file was too low-resolution for the display, causing noticeable...

Sleek, stylish exterior; good fit-and-finish

Unimpressive output quality over HDMI; intermittent HDMI display problems; faulty connection over component (defective unit); slow disc access time

Makes a difference

I bought this to go with a new 50" plasma from Newegg that has yet to arrive. Testing it on my old plasma has convinced me I need a second one! I wonder just how much better high def DVDs will be over this. (Not ready to pay $1000 for a high def DVD...

The upconversion makes a noticable difference on standard DVDs on my 37" 720P/1080i plasma TV from my old 480P DVD. This DVD player is excellent and adds detail approximating high def material from regular old DVDs. It is thin and light weight

Does not include an HDMI cable, but you can and should buy one from Newegg...they have the best prices on these

Samsung DVD HD860

The Samsung DVD-HD860 is an upscaling DVD player, capable of upscaling DVDs over its HDMI output to 720p and 1080i. Despite some of the marketing hype espousing that they'll make your DVDs appear in HD picture quality, the increase in picture quality...
