Sony DVP-CX870D - (DVD Players)

You'll be sorry...

I have purchased countless Sony products, but this one is a true dog. I thought that it would be great to have one changer to hold all of my DVD's (I still like the idea a lot!), but this product has some pretty serious flaws: 1) It's definitely ...

Holds 300 DVD's.

Extremely slow and cumbersome to use.

Sony Misses

I bought this unit on an impulse having had good luck with Sony products in the past. I wish I would have come to this website first. I thought it would be a great unit to get rid of the clutter of cd boxes and it holds as much as about 180 GB or so...

It flips the cd over if you put in in backwards

It won't play it anyway because it's a CD-R

Sony DVD = Low Quality

This is a review based on extended usage.

So far, it has not exploded (trying to look at the bright side)

Shoddy workmanship - apparently designed to break shortly after warranty expires.

You get what you pay for

I have owned one of these units for a year now and it has had one VERY MAJOR flaw LOADING. The big vertical carousel is fussy about loading discs and it will ruin your enjoyment of this piece because of that. Mine is in now for its third service...

300 disc library, dual sided play, looks, 5.1 outputs

poor manual, lousy interface, service and support, loading and cataloging

Only a year old and ready to upgrade

OK. I know most of the other reviews are from last year and the new model is out but the DVP-CX870D is still being sold.

No more VHS boxes to trip over!

EXTREMELY poor user interface. The more discs you have the harder it is to use.

Wait for the next generation...?

In retrospect I was happier with Sony's 200-DVD units, even though they were almost 50% bigger! At least they did not have so many functional bugs--for example, at some point, your DVP-CX870D will try to eject a disc into an occupied slot. Also, the...

Access 300 DVDs ; dual-sided play. Great space savings since the boxes can go

Very poor user interface ; functional bugs ; cannot cascade units

There's a lot it doesn't do

Beware - this unit will NOT play your CD-R discs, and will NOT play the new SuperAUdioCDs! The manual is virtually incomprehensible, even to this techie, and searching for a particular disk is tedious. Picture and sound quality are good. It...

Great storage.

Incomprehensible manual. Won't play CD-R or SuperAudio CDs.

Nice big DVD changer, but not perfect

Unlike what other say about this and the 860 (non DD decoder model), it does play CD-R.

300+1 DVDs. Good video quality. FLIP! feature

No audio & subtitles on 2x playback. Weak UI.
