Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-505 review: Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-505

Sony Reader Digital Book PRS-505

Electronic book that can hold thousands of titles; excellent high-contrast screen rivals that of printed page and is easy to read in bright environments; some design and performance improvements versus first-gen model; 128MB internal memory, with more...

Downloadable titles are expensive and only available through Sony's online store; AC adapter is an optional accessory (you charge the PRS-505 by connecting the included USB cable to your computer); desktop software isn't available for Mac owners; PDF...

While the PRS-505 Reader Digital Book is not without flaws, Sony's improvements make this model easier to recommend.

Sony Reader PRS-505

When we reviewed the first generation Sony Reader PRS-500 in November 2006, we were impressed and pleased overall: the screen was much better than a traditional PDA or notebook LCD for extended reading, battery life was fantastic and the reader could...

Great screen that's brighter than the first generation and even easier on the eyes. Excellent battery life. Good audio quality for music playback, though the music player could use more features.

No support for note taking. Sony desktop software is Windows-only.

It's easy on the eyes both in terms of the device's looks and the excellent screen that's perfect for reading. At $299, it's actually one of the more reasonable eBook readers on the market, something we don't often get to say about a Sony product....
