Garmin Nuvi 3597LMTHD review: Garmin adds a premium edge to classic GPS

After years of reviewing PND after PND, it's hard to get excited about a GPS device's physical form. However, the Nuvi 3597LM has managed to capture my attention with its glossy, black face and slim chassis.

The Garmin Nuvi 3597LMTHD boasts a premium design with a sharp 5-inch capacitive screen and a thin metal chassis. Voice command makes the already intuitive interface easier to use on the road. Search-based destination input and natural spoken...

The Smartphone Link feature doesn't really do anything aside from serving as a portal for additional paid services.

The Nuvi 3597LMTHD continues to refine Garmin's brand of navigation with premium design and one of the best interfaces in the business.

Garmin has done it again with the nüvi 3597LMTHD, a high-end portable GPS device that continues to set the bar for the genre. The question is whether there's a market for pricey in-car navigation systems these days.

A premium sat-nav with traffic updates

Lifetime maps ; Lifetime traffic ; Excellent voice control

Live services require smartphone connection ; RDS-TMC traffic only

The Garmin nuvi 3597LMT provides a lot of sat-nav features for the money, although the traffic updates are only RDS-TMC.

The Garmin nüvi 3597 LMTHD satnav is the brand's latest flaghship GPS device, but what does it bring to the table?

Of course, the Garmin nüvi 3597 LMTHD is a premium unit, and unfortunately so is the price. Only confirmed US pricing of $380 is available so far, putting the equivalent UK price at around £240.

The Garmin Nuvi 3597 is a fine premium GPS, but it's priced a little too high for our tastes.

Excellent physical design ; Spoken searches work superbly ; Great magnetic screen mount

High price ; Display colours are garish

As such, other premium devices, such as the top-of-the-range TomTom or Navman GPS systems, are cheaper at RRP levels and often even cheaper in real-world sale situations. Buy a Nuvi 3597 and you'll get a solid and dependable GPS — but you're paying...

"Another Quality product. Some feathers are now gone?"

Coming from a Tom Tom or other GPS, you'll be very pleased. Not a big a draw coming from a new 3790 series.

The magnetic mount is by far the best feature making placing the Garmin on the dash mount a breeze. The placement of the power button is also a big improvement. Voice commands are far more responsive and make usage a breeze

No Garmin Lock, I really hate this take away. The Lock feature does little to dissuade a thief but at least it make the unit unusable for the thief. Garmin Link has some advantages but also drawbacks.
