Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with GPS Locator

Type: Automobile, Turn-by-turn: yes, 3D View: no, Multi Segment Routing: yes

Familiar, easy to use and learn Microsoft Windows interface. Accurate GPS tracking. Current maps.

No automatic recalculation after missed turn. Smaller, more dated POI database than the one included with Delorme Street Atlas 2006.

For notebook owners, Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with GPS Locator is a simple and cost-effective alternative to a portable on-dash navigation system.

Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 review

Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006

Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 is easier to navigate than DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2006, uses Wi-Fi hot spots to find your location, and includes new voice directions for GPS users.

Streets and Trips 2006 displays fewer restaurants, hotels, and other points of interest than Street Atlas USA.

Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 is an easy-to-learn mapping program with lots of extras for GPS users. But for more points of interest, choose DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2006 instead.

I am having problems

Maps seem dated. same as the 2003 maps,at least in the Pacific N.W.. Works fine with XP home with SP2 on a different machine.

I have used S$T 2003 for years and really like it. If you are running Windows XP go for the 2006 or wait for 2007. Its worth the price just to hear it misspronounce names

It won't open with my Windows 2000Pro. It seems to load but then gives different error messages when trying to open. After over an hour on the phone to Microsoft it was sugested that I update the machine I wanted to use it on to XP Pro.. Don't know if I...

GPS system

so far it's pretty good. I've been able to find all the locations i've typed in

You have to push a key for it to recaculate if you go off course. which isn't fun to do while driving. unfortunately it's only as good as mapquest.. Yahoo maps are more up to date

Lacking Quite a Bit

I would really reccommend a different brand. Garmin makes an excellent product road maps product that I've tried, and now I wish i would've gotten that instead.

Decent, Cheap GPS reciver (even though it is available bundled with other products at or around the same price)

The mapping software is horrible. The route planner is useless (as it often directs you to a route that is anywhere from 10-80 miles out of your way from what I've seen so far) The points of interests are just as useless. In dire need of updating. I...

no write protect key?

See "Cons" and wonder why I bought one myself?

The pro is that this is MSFT product without a key!!! Revel in the glory that is the new software rebellion!! Oh MSFT you will pay dearly for such openness

maps are free online, don't tell anyone else... shhhhh

It's a cheap GPS system

Cheap, and got me where I wanted to go with a little common sense.

To use this properly you need another person.

Good Product

Has a lot of nice features like night mode so you don't keep everyone else in the vehicle awake with the LCD backlight when its time for a nap.

No product is perfect.
