Palm GPS Navigator Car Kit review

The Palm GPS Navigator Car Kit features a streamlined setup, as the GPS receiver and speaker integrate into the cradle. The system provides accurate directions and timely route recalculations.

The receiver was sometimes slow to acquire a satellite fix and didn't always recognize that the Treo was attached. The Car Kit is also a bit pricey.

For Treo 680 and Treo 700p owners who want a navigation and hands-free solution, the Palm GPS Navigator Car Kit offers ease of use and accurate directions, but once again, we wish it were less expensive.

Palm GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition

Significantly cheaper than a standalone GPS unit, this hardware/software combo is an interesting and competent upgrade from Treo owners.

Sensitive GPS Bluetooth receiver. Navigator 6 software nearly identical to excellent TomTom GPS devices. Multisegment routing.

Initial setup somewhat more complicated than plug-and-play dedicated GPS products. Making/receiving phone calls requires exiting Navigator application.

Review: Palm GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition

The $299 GPS Navigator smartphone edition works with the Treo 650, 700w/wx, and 700p and includes everything but the smartphone. You get TomTom Navigator 6 software (on a single DVD), a 1 GB SD card, Bluetooth GPS receiver, suction-cup windshield...

A positive aspect of this arrangement is that it makes the Treo very easy to remove from its cradle with one hand and almost no effort. The flip side is that on at least one occasion, our phone popped out right of the cradle during modest acceleration...

Palm GPS Navigator - Smartphone Edition

I love being an early adaptor. I really love the product previews I get to see before launch date. Palm was very generous in giving me one of the first looks at their new GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition which is just being released.

If you are a Bluetooth headset or Car kit user and you want to drive with GPS guidance - be forewarned - you will lose your headset/car kit connection if you connect to the GPS receiver.

Packaging

Good job. One question: Do you still have to switch to the specific map set if you travel out of your home state? Also do you have to keep all maps in the SD card in order to travel from east coast to west coast?
