Aiaiai TMA-1 Professional DJ Monitoring review

With the headphone market saturated with cookie-cutter models, it's difficult for a single model to stand out, but Aiaiai's TMA-1 is the exception to the rule. Inspired by the design of the Sennheiser HD 25, the $200 headphones cut a stripped-down...

Aiaiai's full-sized monitoring headphones are suitable for DJs and music lovers alike. They are built to last, with an expandable rubberized wire and a robust, one-piece design.

There's no material to cushion the thin rubber headband, which can lead to fatigue after long periods of use.

The sleek TMA-1 headphones by Aiaiai are ideal for traveling DJs who need tough headphones with an up-front, bass-slamming sound profile.

Aiaiai TMA-1 Headphones Review

Looking at the box containing the Aiaiai TMA-1 headphones, one would expect flashy, “Look-at-me” headphones to be packed inside. After all, they were developed by and for DJs, and DJs like to be noticed, right? What you may not know is that Aiaiai is a...

Cool, minimalist design ; Warm, forgiving sound ; Comfortable ; Built to take abuse

Leather pads showing premature wear ; If you like analytical sound, look elsewhere ; Foam pads leak sound

AIAIAI TMA-1 Review

The stunning minimalist design of the phones, conceived by Danish design studio KiBiSi, and of course the name as well, is what got me interested in them. “TMA-1” stands for “Tycho Magnetic Anomaly 1”, the name of the monolith in Arthur C. Clarke's...

Great sound quality for a closed phone – warm, dynamic, punchy, fast, non-fatiguing, not nasal or honky, no recessed midrange ; Very efficient, very loud even with underpowered MP3 players ; Excellent minimalist design ; User-replaceable...

Might sound too “weighty”, “full”, or mid-heavy for some kinds of acoustic music ; Heavy and awkward coiled stock cable (can be easily replaced) ; Foam ear pads don't deliver balanced sound quality (use the leather pads instead) ; Slight...

Will the TMA-1 dethrone the Sennheiser HD 25-1 as the be-all-end-all DJ phones? Probably not. Do the TMA-1 generally sound better than the HD 25-1 to my ears? Yes, they do – especially noticeable in the bass, treble, and soundstage. The TMA-1 midrange...

AIAIAI TMA-1

If you're a DJ then these are for you, not for just the sound quality but because the TMA-1s were designed for DJs with the help of some big- name DJs. In fact, you'll love them even if you have no pretensions towards DJ-ing.

Cool; clean looking; amazing sound balance

No cushion between the headband and yourhead

If, in the past, you’ve wanted to pick up headphones of this calibre but could not justify the higher price, than these could be the answer – with the $270 price and high quality they’re the perfect pair.

"Durable, polished accurate sound, and very stylish."

These cans rival my Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro and surpass my Klipsch iS4 and Koss Portapros. They sound wonderful without the use of a preamp and DAC. Add those components and you've got a rig that rivals other more expensive ones. These headphones come...
