HP Omen Mindframe headset review: staying cool isn’t enough

A headset that forgot about the importance of sound

It really does cool your ears ; Firm, but comfortable fit

Heatsinks leave exterior warm ; No mic gain / volume control ; Sound quality is bad, and the 7.1 virtual surround can’t be disabled

Stronger alternatives (that lack the cooling feature) exist for less than half the price from HP’s competitors. And on the other end of the pricing spectrum, there are other 7.1-channel headphones that sound better than the Mindframe, such as HyperX’s...

Omen Mindframe headset review: HP nails the cooling, but the basics need work

The Omen Mindframe gaming headset makes its mark with thermoelectric cooling in the earcups. It works as advertised, but HP misses on some basics.

FrostCap's thermoelectric cooling keeps your ears a comfy temperature ; Elegant and attractive design ; Sounds decent enough for gaming

Heatsinks leave the outside of the headset weirdly warm to the touch ; Microphone beeps when muted/unmuted ; No official EQ capabilities or 7.1 controls. Software is oddly bare-bones.

The headset space is exciting these days. The more crowded it gets, the more gimmicks we’re seeing. It’s one of the few reliable ways to stand out, especially if, like HP, you’re coming late to the market. The more gimmicks you put out there, the more...

HP Omen Mindframe Review: Cool Behind the Ears

When it comes to longer gaming sessions, uncomfortable, toasty ears are something that comes along with the territory. Many headsets claim to remedy this frustrating malady, but just use valves to let air in, rather than providing active cooling. Enter...

The HP Omen Mindframe gaming headset stands out with tech that keeps your ears cool and has great sound, but its microphone is unwieldy and there is occasional sound leakage.
