HyperX Cloud Mix review: Pivoting to a mobile lifestyle brand brings mixed results

Bridging the gap between wired gaming headset and mobile Bluetooth headset, the HyperX Cloud Mix doesn't quite nail either. But if you're in both categories, perhaps it's an appealing jack-of-all-trades option.

Pretty solid audio fidelity when plugged in ; Standard HyperX comfort ; Charges quickly and lasts for 20 hours on the go

Why would you use it plugged in? ; On-headset controls only work in Bluetooth mode ; As expensive as buying two discrete devices, one wired and one Bluetooth

The HyperX Cloud Mix is a weird experiment, and one I don’t think is entirely successful. It’s expensive, the logo is obnoxious, and splitting the difference between wired gaming headset and mobile Bluetooth means HyperX doesn’t really nail either...

Review: HyperX's Cloud Mix headset successfully bridges home, mobile & gaming

Even if you don't think you need a gaming headset, HyperX's over-the-ear Cloud Mix -- designed for both desktops and mobile devices -- is a great performer, and might help change your mind.

People who only care about the mobile half of the equation, and/or gym use, will probably want to stick to something like AirPods or Jaybirds, as the Cloud Mix's size, heat, and control limitations probably aren't balanced by the extra fidelity.

HyperX Cloud Mix review

Good, but tight and pricey

Clean sound ; Quality construction ; AptX support

A tad tight ; Like paying for two headsets

The HyperX Cloud Mix offers up gaming credentials and Bluetooth capability, but it comes at a high price. And, the aim to fit two niches keeps it from excelling.
