Plantronics Explorer 500

The $60 Plantronics Explorer 500 sets the benchmark for affordable, no-frills Bluetooth headsets.

Comfortable. Good sound and voice quality. Physical volume buttons.

Range and call quality, while good, aren't outstanding.

Performance and Conclusions Voice commands are basic; when you hold down the Call button, it launches your phone's voice command system. Incoming calls alert you of the number, but not of the name of the caller. A smartphone app, Plantronics Hub,...

Plantronics Explorer 500 Review

Replacing last year's Marque 2 as Plantronics' midlevel offering, the Plantronics Explorer 500 hopes that its reasonable $60 cost might pique the interest of those who prefer simplicity...

Simple design ; Useful charging strap ; Decent battery life

Disappointing call quality performance ; Voices through the earpiece sound strained and crackly ; No media controls whatsoever

Bearing a sticker tag of $60, that’s considerably less than the majority of models currently on Plantronics’ lineup. Factoring its support for HD voice, it’s not something we see in many headsets under the $50 price mark, so it’s a feature that...

Plantronics Explorer 500 Bluetooth Headset Review

Not too long ago, we took a look at the Plantronics Voyager Edge UC and Plantronics Blackwire C725. While the Blackwire C725 was terrific for use with a computer and the Voyager Edge UC is great for switching frequently between a smartphone and...

Affordable. Small discrete design. Super comfortable fit. USB charging cable is cleverly designed. Very good HD audio and call quality

Would like for the audio volume to be able to get a bit louder

Plantronics Explorer 500: An affordable Bluetooth headset with premium performance

It's hard to get too excited over a mono Bluetooth headset, but Plantronics new Explorer 500, which replaces the company's midlevel Marque 2, has some compelling attributes that make it worth paying attention to.

The Explorer 500 will come in white and black in North America. A gun-metal gray version will be available in Europe, where it will cost €59 and £49 in the UK. No word yet on Australian pricing or availability.

Good ear piece

Though I recommend this for a good ear piece I am disappointed about it as compared to the M55. It is just as comfortable but it doesn't quieten surrounding noise as well as the M55. Overall a good piece, but I should have bought the M55.
