SteelSeries Merc Stealth Gaming Keyboard review

The SteelSeries Merc Stealth gaming keyboard is nearly identical to one we looked at back in 2007, the Ideazon Merc Gaming Keyboard . SteelSeries has since updated the product--rebranding it as the Merc Stealth--and added tricolor LEDs and a handy...

Separate game pad area isolates keys in a game-friendly (first-person shooter) design; improved rubberized keystroke feedback; software lets you tweak key mapping as much as you want.

Game pad keys take some getting used to.

The SteelSeries Merc Stealth gaming keyboard updates an already innovative design by adding lights and a USB hub. Though the design may not be for everyone, the Stealth Merc should satisfy gamers who want more than just a unique key layout.

SteelSeries Merc Stealth Gaming Keyboard - HardwareZone.com

SteelSeries is carving a name among gamers and today we check out the company's latest Merc Stealth gaming keyboard to find out what's the fuss.

Great keyboard for gamers!

Great keyboard for gamers, you won't be sorry. The quality is top notch.

I have owned the previous version of this keyboard for years and it still works great, I wanted this one for the addition of the backlighting and USB connections. The feel of the keys when typing is actually much improved over the last board, which was...

Disabling the Windows key would be nice, although it may be possible through the software, I don't know...I don't really have a need for profiles or macros, so I just it right out of the box, but nothing was listed in the manual about being able to do...

Broken out of box

I would just buy keyboards directly from manufacture next time.

Has LED lights

The gaming key-set, the E key came stuck down... You would think that before the send out the keyboard they would at least push each button once... Not only that But I had to pay an additional $20 to ship it back to new-egg, so I diffident receive a...

Truely Unbelievable MUST READ !

Everyone with the old ZBOARD needs to make this same deal happen, just contact steel series customer support via email, I even told the guy I had it like 5 yrs and no longer had the receipt too and he still gave me the RMA, hellzzz yes!

I had the original Ideazon ZBOARD up until the newest software for win7 x64 destroyed the use of it, it had to remain plugged in or I would have to reinstall the software each and every time to get the game pad to work again ; But because this was the...

I WIN with a trade like this

Not worth the price...

Overall it's a pretty good keyboard. I personally wouldn't buy it again because 1: I already have it at 2: I got my use out of it, now I use a cheapo $13 keyboard just for general use until I get a Lycosa Buy it if you want it

Feels good to type on ; Comfortable Curvature ; Lots of backlight options (3 colors, 3 brightness settings on each) ; Multimedia buttons

MMO Buttons" (buttons on the left-hand side) were awkwardly placed, never really used them even though I tried on multiple occasions to get used to em ; Keys start to fade after a while (my S key is completely gone and D is pretty close) ; Putting...

Second One

I was considering replacing my old Merc Stealth after three years with a different board. I tried a Razer Black Widow Ultimate; it died after a month with no spills or drops. I also bought a Logitech G10; the build quality was an embarassment. I...

Surprizing build quality. My first Merc Stealth was from Ideazon and I kind of thought of it as a gimicky toy of a keyboard but it has held up through minor spills and the occaisonal drop without a hitch. The game pad is very useful for FPS games in...

Have to have the number lock off to access the delete and home keys, and a few others. Seven keystroke anti-ghosting isn't impressive, but unless you type with your elbows or play games with your rear-end that's enough

Holding strong!

Before this board I was using its predecessor, the Zboard MERC (before they got bought or renamed to steelseries), which the only difference is it is not backlit or has any connectors on the board itself. Well that old board has been going for 5 years,...

Where to begin ; Back lit: It lets you adjust the color (blue red purple) and brightness of the back light ; Gaming keys: You can kiss WASD goodbye, on the gaming keys is very easy to reach the 1 through - keys, along with space bar, alt shift, etc....

The rubber grip at the bottom of the keyboard starts coming out of place after about 6 months. The same thing happened to my old Zboard MERC (its predecessor: no LEDs or headset/USB jacks), then again, I do slide them back and forward A LOT! I did...

Pick something else

Left side keys, back lit keys, layout and feel

Frequently blinks then either the number pad or the entire keyboard stops working and you have to restart your PC even after following the support instructions ; Steelseries customer support is HORRIBLE at best, granted they will respond to your first...

Works well, very nice for gaming

All in all, this is a well designed keyboard. I eventually got rid of the software it came with. Good if setting up macros, otherwise, every game (with the exception of older consoles, like NES old) allow people to customize their game controls. ...

Great back-lighting, very bright, adjustable ; Durable keyboard

A bit wider than an average keyboard. People with a small desk may run into problems ; Some of the gaming keys have started to ware off ; Software with gaming profiles is utterly useless ; Have to toggle NumLock in order to use the Del key (annoying at...
