Gaming Laptop Generations: The ABS Mayhem G3

In March of this year, THG reviewed the first generation of gaming laptops from ABS: the G1. Now, only nine months later, ABS has sent us their third generation system. How does it perform compared to its forefathers?

Do NOT buy this

It ran very well... while it ran

I bought this notebook about two months ago and the harddrive has already died

don't waste your time or money

i got the laptop for christmas, for my husband, knowing he wanted a powerful laptop to handle our audio and photoediting needs. we were planning a trip to ind ia as well, and the laptop would be the perfect accessory for the trip. it stopped...

excellent performance if you can get it to work

extremely unreliable ; runs very hot ; expect to use the warranty more than 2 times, if it does'nt run out by the time they send it back after the first problem is fixed

Nice Stuff

This is a very sufficient laptop. When I'm at home, I use it as a desktop with monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. over my other desktop. It runs Final Fantasy XI like a charm. This laptop will also be amazing to have for college soon as well, as well as...

It didn't leave much room in the case I bought with it, but that's my fault. :)

Contrary to popular opinion

Many reviews that I've read have completely trashed these notebooks and have claimed that they break as soon as you purchase them. I believe a lot of problems have risen from the fact that this computer runs quite hot. Notebooks simply don't have the...

This is a laptop computer to take the place of an equally decent desktop. The processor is more powerful than the average stock laptop. The ram is sufficient to run almost any programs from a user's desktop. It's also nice to have a graphics card...

This computer will heat up quite a bit if you're running graphic intensive programs. Make sure you purchase a heat pad. I've also been unsuccessful in locating an external volume control other than through Windows - Just a bit frustrating when you're...

Nice laptop, but broke after 2 months

A well priced laptop with a lot of great features. If you don't need a mission critical laptop and want a nice gaming/media laptop, I'd recommend this.

This laptop performs well and has good screen quality. Movies and games look great on the LCD. The widescreen is great for watching DVDs while I'm bored. Plays games like World Of Warcraft real well. Nice set of features, like DVD burner and memory...

The ATI 9700 is a decent video card, but not the best... then again, if you want to plunk down a few more bucks you can get something better, you get what you pay for. By default, this computer kept saying it was running at 798 MHz while on battery. I...

Earlier review answer

I am sorry to I guess clog up the review area, but with a review about 3 or 4 behind me I noticed a con that said it ran at 800 MHZ on batter with now options. Just so you are aware most laptops do that and it only opporates at that speed when it is...

Nice desktop alternative

read the review, but i think this is an excellent laptop for the money.

Nicely put together OEM type notebook. Came with winXP home pre installed, basic Nero, and that was it. No unwanted programs! Excellent! 8x dvd writer, good video (not great, but good)

runs at 800mhz when unplugged, no options to run faster. Hard to find replacement batteries (i'm still looking)

amazing

a great PC if you're sick of lugging around a desktop. note: AMD's "cool and quiet" varies the voltage and clock multiplier for the CPU depending on load, so the CPU will run at 800mhz most of the time if you don't mess with the power settings. if you...

this is a true DTR laptop. if you need serious portable hardware for gaming or CPU-intensive apps, this is a very good choice. it makes a tremendous audio PC when paired with an m-audio firewire interface. screen is big and bright with no dead pixels....

radeon 9700 graphics are quickly growing out-of-date for serious gamers (which is not me, really). because it has a DTR chip, proper heat management requires that the fans be running all the time (at various speeds depending on CPU load); thus, the...

Too good to be true?

The reviews i read from customers on here are very positive. The reviews elsewhere on the web aren't all so positive... most have to do with poor customer service at ABS and defective hardware. i can say that what customer service i have delt with so...

Has all the stuff that i could have asked for out of a computer, and at a reasonable price too

After about 20 days the computer started locking up, a real lock up that is, just froze and never came back and i had to kill the power to it, started becoming more and more frequent, went through all the options and the headache of trying to determine...
