Acer C720 review (Core i3): a more powerful Chromebook

As the first Chromebook with a Core i3 processor, the Acer C720 offers modest performance gains over its rivals, along with equally long battery life. You might want to wait and see if other laptop makers come out with something a little better...

Core i3 processor offers modest, but noticeable performance gains ; Battery life keeps pace with lower-powered models ; Generally a good value, especially considering the price

Screen has poor viewing angles ; Generally cheap build quality, including a shallow keyboard ; Only Acer's lower-end Chromebook is offered with a touchscreen

It seems I end almost every Chromebook review with the same disclaimer: They're not for everyone. And I stand by that. As I wrote the above section on Windows alternatives, I was reminded that I cannot, in good faith, recommend a Chrome OS device to...

Acer C720 Chromebook (C720-3404)

The Acer C720 adds an Intel Core i3 processor to the company's Chromebook lineup. Chrome OS power users who rely on dozens of extensions and plugins should feel the benefit, but they'll pay.

Seven hours of battery life. 4GB of memory and a Intel Core i3 CPU. HDMI and USB 3.0 ports.

Relatively expensive. Narrow viewing angles. Drab design.

The Acer C720 Chromebook is brimming with features and has appeal for the power Chrome OS user. It's noticeably faster than Celeron-powered Chromebooks and may satisfy those who need a bit more power. However, at $379.99, it's one of the most expensive...

Acer Chromebook C720P-2600

With a bright, clear touch screen and all-day battery life, the Acer Chromebook C720P-2600 dominates among Chromebooks.

Great boot times and battery life. Dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. Bright, anti-glare, 10-point touch screen. Under three pounds. Desktop-class browser. Has 32GB local SSD and 100GB Google Drive storage.

SD cards will stick out of card reader. No 4G/LTE option. Slightly narrow viewing angles.

The Acer Chromebook C720P-2600 has double the storage of previous SSD-powered Chromebooks, and it launches and reboots quicker than hard-drive powered Chromebooks like our previous Editors' Choice for Chromebooks, the Acer C7 Chromebook (C710-2055)....

Acer C720P Chromebook ( C720P-2600)

But for some of you, that may well be enough -- especially if you're splitting time between a Chromebook and another device (a PC, a tablet , or a smartphone).

The Acer Chromebook C720P has a good keyboard, an SD expansion slot, USB 2 and 3 ports, and HDMI, plus a touch screen. It also has more onboard storage (32GB) than most entry-level Chromebooks, and better battery life than most previous Chromebooks.

Low-end price is matched by its low-end feel. Chrome OS has natural limitations. Touch isn't always that useful in Chrome.

The Acer Chromebook C720P manages to get better at all the key things, adding up to a little laptop alternative that's better than any budget Chromebook we've seen before.

Acer Chromebook C720P review

To love a Chromebook, you have to understand that the idea of a "laptop" is changing. We're somewhere between tablet and PC now, phone-style speed computing and an older, more old-fashioned computer. Chrome OS -- Google's browser-based, all-cloud...

Acer C720 Chromebook (C720-2800)

Acer's latest C720 Chromebook improves battery life and portability, but it could still use some improvement.

Quite light and thin. Chrome OS is constantly updated. Matte finish on display. Quick boot times. HDMI and USB 3.0 ports. 6.5 hour battery life.

Chrome OS offers limited offline use. No 3G option. No Touch screen.

The Acer C720 Chromebook (C720-2800) comes closer to Chromebook nirvana, but still has to overcome the short 16GB of storage and the fact that its screen pales in comparison to that of the HP Chrombook 11's IPS display. If there's any system that's...

Acer C720 Chromebook review

The perfect Chromebook has long been a pipe dream. All Google needed to do was release a model with great battery life and speedy performance for a price that well undercuts a typical Windows...

Snappy performance ; Great battery life ; Cheap price tag

Bland design ; Tinny speakers ; Sticky headphone jack

A $250 laptop always makes compromises, but the C720 makes the right ones

Acer C720 Chromebook (Core i3)

The updated Acer C720 Chromebook is a faster, more powerful improvement on the original model, but is it worth the upgrade?

Faster than the original C720; Lightweight and ultra-portable; Good battery life ; Bland design; Limited app selection ; The Core i3 version of the Acer C720 Chrombeook is a faster, more powerful improvement on the original.

Acer C720P Review

The latest Chromebook to be put under the Ubergizmo review microscope is the Asus C720p. How does it stack up against the competition? Read this review to find out!

The Acer C720P is a really nice little device–it has a small footprint and a small price tag, but performs very well and the touchscreen display is a joy to watch and to use. I appreciate the minimal design, the smooth surface without any fussy...
