Alienware 15 review: It's built like a tank you can actually carry

The Alienware 15 is huge and loud, and it still has that enormous (and ugly) hinge on the back, but it's much more manageable and roadworthy than its 17-inch sibling.

Fits into a normal size backpack—sort-of. ; Desktop level performance in a laptop ; 120 Hz screen great for gaming

Still much larger than other 15-inch laptops ; Hinge is an inconvenient eyesore ; Mediocre battery life

Two inches makes a world of difference, though. I couldn’t see using the Alienware 17 as my day-to-day laptop. All 17-inch machines are huge, but a 17-inch machine that’s still over an inch thick and weighs 9.5 pounds? No way.

Alienware 15 R3

The Alienware 15 has a sophisticated new look and a new Intel Kaby Lake processor, but subpar battery life hinders the overall experience.

Attractive redesigned chassis; Good graphics and overall performance; Comfortable keyboard; Tobii eye-tracking integration; Lovely G-Sync enabled display

Below-average battery life; A bit heavy for the size

Alienware 15 R3 Notebook Review

The aliens are back. We did not have the chance to review the first edition of the Alienware 15 R3 (Skylake + Pascal), but we can finally have a look at the promising gaming notebook with the Kaby Lake update. How does the 15-inch system hold up...

a lot of features (macro keys, eye tracking, etc.) ; clever port layout ; many hardware options ; numerous illumination elements ; reference-class case quality ; handy Alienware tools ; pretty simple maintenance ; good input devices ; very high...

high noise development under load ; CPU with temperature issues ; only 12 months base warranty ; unaesthetic fan exhausts ; sound could be better ; high weight ; no card reader

The visuals of the third revision of the Alienware 15 R3 are beyond any doubt (except for the protruding fan area). There is currently no other gaming notebook with such a sophisticated, stable, and well-built chassis. Then there is also the unique...

Alienware 15 R3 review – borderline 15-inch gaming system

Alienware is back with the latest and craziest 15-inch gaming laptop – the Alienware 15 R3. It sports all the hardware you'd expect from a high-end gaming laptop and even surprises with…

Incredibly sturdy construction, clean and sophisticated design;Fairly thin (just 25 mm);Good keyboard and touchpad;Good IPS panel;Supports up to 3 M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs;Not a bad cooling solution considering the form factor and the demanding...

CPU and GPU underclocked by default, third party software needs to be installed for overclocking;A bit loud under load;Heavy (3.5 kg);G-Sync is optional and most units come with only 60Hz displays; The screen uses PWM from 0 to 99% brightness (our...

Alienware 15 R3 Review Tim Schiesser

Up for review today is the latest Alienware 15. Fully configurable with a wide range of hardware, with prices ranging from $1,350 for the base model to $2,700 for the top-spec system, expect GeForce 10 graphics and Alienware level of design and polish.

Attractive design with lots of customizable lighting. Highly configurable hardware options offer both value and performance. Solid 1080p gaming experience from Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060. Supports Windows Hello.

Heavy chassis with a beefy, loud and largely ineffective cooler. 3 to 5 FPS slower than a similar GTX 1060 laptop we tested. GTX 1070 model can be expensive.

Alienware 15 R3

The late 2016 Alienware 15 R3 features much more powerful NVIDIA Pascal 10 series graphics and a slimmer design. Both the NVIDIA GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 cards are available. The Alienware is slim for a gaming laptop at 1" (25.4mm) but not terribly light...

High quality materials and looks, slim albeit heavy. Good internal temps, great keyboard, has Thunderbolt 3 and Graphics Amplifier support

Large footprint and very heavy for a 15" gaming laptop. Windows Hello/Tobii IR camera is flakey

Alienware laptops have grown up in looks and are modernized--gone is the ultra-chunky and aggressive look. We welcome the modern cooling design and lower heat internals that are very 2016, and the (dare I say) classy looking aluminum and soft touch...

Alienware 15 R3 review

Not-so-mobile gaming monster

Impeccable build quality and design ; Massively powerful ; Excellent cooling

Expensive ; Big and heavy for 15-inches ; Average battery life

The Alienware 15 R3 is an incremental update over the previous generation but offers the power and refinement that gamers on the go will love. It’s a big and heavy beast but, if you don’t mind the weight, it’s a potent laptop that can do it all.

Dell Alienware 15 (R3, 2016) review

Alienware is a veteran in gaming systems, and that's reflected in its R3 version of the Alienware 15. A solid, substantial design packed with midrange components and accented with an ample array of accent lights and backlight zones, it's basically a...

The Alienware 15 makes the most of its components, and it has a well-designed lighting scheme. Plus, it comes with a decent G-Sync monitor, and it can drive an external display at a high refresh rate and with G-Sync.

It's on the heavy side at 7.8 pounds, the battery life is middling, and its fans are loud.

A solid if somewhat uninspiring gaming laptop, the Alienware 15 is a good choice when you need fast performance but not the big screen.

Alienware 15 R3 review

A review of the 2017 Alienware 15 gaming laptop - a powerful and sleek machine that's expensive, but also good value.

The Alienware 15 R3 is a gaming laptop that is hard to beat. It has as much power as any of its mainstream rivals, and has lighting that is both eye-catching and customisable, but can also be switched off when you’d rather let you laptop slip into the...

Good deal

Great buy for those of us that cant afford a top of the line gaming computer. Works great as is, and is easily upgradable when funds allow. Very pleased, hope durability is good.

Alot of computer for the price. Easily upgradeable. Fast shipping. Plays games at ultra settings but operates best a notch or 2 lower. Easily overclocks. Cool lighting on tower to play with. No bloatware, thank you

weighs 58lbs (wow), 6gigs of ram is not enough, come on Dell my laptop has 8, dont be so cheap! Video cards are adequate but nothing to get excited about
