Alienware 17 (2014)

The Alienware 17 is a high-end gaming laptop with all the premium touches you'd expect, and performance to match.

Sleek design, with distinctive lighting effects and solid construction. Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and latest Nvidia graphics card.

Pricey. Limited portability. Battery is sealed in chassis.

Conclusion There's no doubt that the Alienware 17 continues the company's reputation for having high-quality, high-performance gaming laptops. A premium price comes with certain expectations, however, and with the less expensive Digital Storm Krypton...

Alienware 17 review

What a difference a few inches makes. While the Alienware 17 desktop replacement gaming laptop is not all that much smaller than the 18-inch Alienware 18 version we recently reviewed, it feels like a much different beast. If the 18-inch model was a...

Dell's Alienware 17 is highly configurable, looks a bit more sophisticated than previous incarnations, and still delivers excellent performance.

You probably don't really want a programmable lightshow for your laptop. No dual-GPU options, and battery life isn't going to help much with on-the-go gaming.

It's not as much of a conversation piece as the tank-like Alienware 18, but the slimmer, lighter Alienware 17 is arguably more practical for serious gamers with realistic budgets.

Alienware 17 Gaming

While it's less immediately impressive as a conversation piece, the smaller (of course, that's a relative term here) chassis is more ergonomic and easier to use while gaming, web-surfing, or even on those rare occasions when it has to go in a backpack...

Alienware 17

The Alienware 17 is a little pricey, but it's a powerful imposing gaming rig that can be taken from room to room or to a friend's house. It will serve you well on the game grid.

Very Good 3D performance. Quad Core Haswell processor. 1080p screen. Cool lighting effects.

Big and Bulky. Expensive. Low battery life.

The Alienware 17 is certainly a statement that you are at least somewhat serious about your gaming. The Alienware is still attractive, with good scores on the gaming tests. However, a short battery life and the fact that only a bit more money will get...

Alienware 17 Gaming Notebook Review

The Alienware M17x R3 and M17x R4 were, at the time, essentially the standard bearers of gaming notebooks. You've had your Clevos and your MSIs for as far back as I can remember; Toshiba throws their hat into the ring with the Qosmio and ASUS has their...

Review Alienware 17 (Haswell) Notebook

Light(s) in the dark. Equipped with a quad-core Haswell CPU, Nvidia's fastest mobile single GPU, and capable of various lighting effects, the Alienware 17 vies for the attention of gaming customers. Our review will determine if the update is a...

Very easy to upgrade and maintain; Superb build quality; Very good speakers; Outstanding performance

Software selection somewhat meager; GPU throttling under load; Display panel uses TN technology

MSI has the GT70, Asus the G750JH. Compared to those models, the Alienware 17 just seems to be a more thoughtful design. Even the predecessor Alienware M17x R4 is a step behind the current model.
