MacBook Pro with Retina display review (13-inch, 2013)

Thanks to a lower price, longer battery life and lighter design, the 13-inch Retina MBP is a better deal than it was a year ago. It's so compelling, in fact, that you might even choose it over the Air.

New, lower price ; Gorgeous display ; Thinner and lighter than before ; Long battery life ; Good graphics, improved SSD speeds

No discrete GPU option on the 13-inch model ; Fans can get loud

On paper, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display looks like a marginal upgrade: a CPU refresh with some slight changes to the weight and dimensions. But thanks to a lower starting price, faster SSD speeds and a big leap in battery life, it's...

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display reviewed: Better (and thicker) than Air

Apple's 2013 update to the 13-inch Retina Pro boasts great battery life, improved performance, and a lower price. What's not to like?

The ; has phenomenal battery life, better-than-average integrated graphics, faster Thunderbolt 2 ports, and a lower price than last year.

Still expensive if you plan to add more storage or RAM; no extra Nvidia graphics option as on the 15-inch version; yes, it’s thicker and heavier than an Air.

There are other high-res laptops out there, but this year’s more powerful and affordable 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is one of the best of the bunch, and makes a compelling case for upgrading from the 13-inch Air.

Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (2013)

The Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch (2013) uses Intel's Haswell-based Core i5 processor to give power users a system that can last over 11 hours under continuous use.

Brilliant Retina display. Over 11 hours of battery life. Comes with iLife and iWork software suites. Two Thunderbolt 2 ports. HDMI. Higher than 1080p HD screen.

Glossy screen. Ethernet requires adapter. Only upgradeable at time of order.

So there you have it, higher than 1080p resolution on a Retina Display, very good capacity flash storage, very good portability, and phenomenal battery life. That is the recipe for our Editors' Choice winner for high-end ultraportable laptops. If it...

13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display review (2013)

Standing in a Best Buy is an odd time for an existential crisis. Yet it's an almost certain occurrence, at least when you're there shopping for a laptop. More so than with any other product...

Gorgeous screen ; Excellent battery life ; Thinner and lighter than ever

Relatively small usable screen real estate ; Poor speakers ; Definite graphics restraints

Not quite a perfect mix, but an excellent middle ground

Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display 2013, 13-inch screen

This year it's back in a more powerful, less expensive package that makes a lot more sense: it's now a Retina laptop that people can actually afford.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display has phenomenal battery life, better-than-average integrated graphics, faster Thunderbolt 2 ports, and a lower price than last year.

Still expensive if you plan to add more storage or RAM; no extra Nvidia graphics option as on the 15-inch version; yes, it’s thicker and heavier than an Air.

Review Apple MacBook Pro Retina 13 Late 2013 Notebook

Thank you Haswell. Intel's latest processor generation is finally available in Apple's Retina MacBooks and results in significantly improved battery runtimes. Our in-depth review determines the performance of the new components. ...

Very quiet; Long battery runtimes; Excellent unibody chassis; High-resolution IPS display with excellent OS support; Great input devices

Virtually no upgradeability; Difficult to maintain and to repair because of pentalobe screws; Glossy display; Only 12 months warranty and expensive upgrade to three years

Obviously the MacBook Air 13". Amongst Windows devices high-resolution ultrabooks like the Asus Zenbook Infinity UX301LA (Review), Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, Samsung Ativ Book 9 or the Toshiba Kirabook 13.

If you're shopping for a new MacBook, do you go for light and thin with a mediocre display resolution – like you'd get from a MacBook Air? Or do you spend more for a thicker laptop with an amazing display, a la the Retina MacBook Pro? Let's revisit the...

13-inch MacBook Pro Retina Review (Late 2013)

Apple 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro review (late 2013)

It happened: the MacBook Air has officially been trumped as my recommended road warrior machine. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, it's another Apple product that's doing the trumping. Released last month alongside the iPad Air and revised iPad mini with...

Review: Apple's late-2013 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

Apple's new late 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has a slightly thinner profile and reduced heft from last year's model, along with a smaller price tag. But it's what's on the inside that really makes this notebook a stunner.

Thinner and lighter (but only slightly) ; Cheaper pricing than last year ; RAM now upgradeable to 16 gigabytes ; Readers looking to purchase up a new MacBook Pro Retina at the absolute lowest prices can turn to our ; , which track the prices of Macs at...

4 gigabytes of RAM in the entry level model may be too little for some ; Still no discrete graphics option, though Iris will be enough for many ; Readers looking to purchase up a new MacBook Pro Retina at the absolute lowest prices can turn to our ; ,...

Apple's late 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro sports a number of improvements over last year's first-ever 13-inch Retina display model. The inclusion of Haswell alone, with its boost to battery life, makes this a worthy successor.
