Asus ROG Strix Scar III

The 15.6-inch Asus ROG Strix Scar III holds appeal for fast-twitch gamers, but teaming a 240Hz display with entry-level Nvidia RTX graphics is not one of its best moves.

Keyboard and side RGB lighting looks cool. Awesome audio output. Unique Keystone hardware key may appeal to some.

GeForce RTX 2060 graphics and 240Hz display are a questionable pairing. Primarily plastic enclosure not as rigid as metal chassis. Screen doesn't support Nvidia G-Sync. Fans get loud while gaming.

Bottom Line: The 15.6-inch Asus ROG Strix Scar III holds appeal for fast-twitch gamers, but teaming a 240Hz display with entry-level Nvidia RTX graphics is not one of its best moves.

Asus ROG Strix Scar III review: Much more than meets the eye

Certainly not a laptop you should judge by its cover. It's so much more than first meets the eye: it's a real powerhouse for gaming.

Uber-smooth 240Hz screen ; Premium finish and stylish looks ; Powerful specs with ray tracing capabilities ; Compact frame but big screen feels ; Fast main boot drive

Gets hot and fans are loud under load ; A little short on USB ports ; Lacks full-sized DisplayPort output ; No webcam

We thoroughly approve of the premium feel of this machine, coupled with a 240Hz high refresh screen and heaps of power on tap for gaming. The price might make most people recoil in horror, but if you have the cash to splash why not go all out?

ROG Strix Scar III

The textbook definition of ‘yeah, it's alright'.

Keyboard is very responsive ; Runs old and new games extremely well ; Fantastic screen

Touchpad is too close to the keyboard ; Fans are way too noisy ; Too bulky to be portable

In reality, the Scar III doesn’t really do much that other gaming laptops don’t. While you’d be perfectly happy with its performance, you might be better off with building your own PC with the same components - unless you need the laptop form factor,...

Asus ROG Strix Scar III review: Gaming greatness at 240Hz

With a 240Hz refresh rate, exceptional performance and RGB galore, the Scar III is an outstanding laptop for the uncompromising gamer

240Hz refresh rate ; All-out RGB lighting ; Supreme CPU speeds

Plasticky chassis ; Struggles to stay cool

If you’re into unusual designs and gaudy RGB lighting then the Scar III might just be the machine for you. It’s one of the most powerful gaming laptops on the market right now, with the fastest raw CPU performance of any laptop we’ve ever tested at...
