Asus ZenBook UX305 review: Still the best budget ultrabook around

Asus ZenBook gets the Skylake treatment while keeping its low price.

Great specs for the price ; Core m offers reasonable office performance

No USB-C port for charging or external display ; Keys aren't backlit

If 2015 was a break-out year for many laptop makers, 2016 so far appears to be steady as she goes. Some vendors have chosen to make tiny changes to bring laptops more in line with newer technologies such as USB-C, while others aren't making any changes...

Review: Asus ZenBook UX305

The sleek and shiny Asus ZenBook UX305 goes for a mere $700, and it performs far better than you'd expect at that price.

Thin and light, solid and sexy, and quiet as a mouse. Twice the RAM and storage of competing models from Apple and Dell, but for less money. Gorgeous screen, comfy keyboard, all-day battery

My kingdom for backlit keys. Lacks the sex appeal of Dell's only-slightly-pricier XPS 13. Oddball screen-hinge design can cause some slippage while you type. Weak built-in speakers are an affront to ears everywhere

Asus Zenbook UX305FA-ASM1

With its ultraslim profile, the Asus Zenbook UX305FA-ASM1 midrange ultraportable certainly redefines the concept of thin. Unfortunately, its performance isn't as impressive.

Thin and light. Aluminum construction. Fanless design, thanks to Intel Core M processor. Full HD-resolution display. Comfortable keyboard and touchpad. All-day battery life in our tests.

Middling performance in testing. No touch screen. Speakers are disappointing.

Conclusion The Asus Zenbook UX305FA-ASM1 may be extremely thin and feather-light, but an ultraportable laptop can't get by on those aspects alone. Even when stacked up against systems that are similarly slim, the Zenbook UX305FA falls short, due in...

The ASUS Zenbook UX305 Review

It was way back in 2011 that ASUS launched the Zenbook series. The original UX21E and UX31E were the first of the thin and light Ultrabooks from ASUS to bear the Zenbook brand, and featured an all-aluminum chassis. ASUS has kept the styling consistent...

Overall, even with the knocks against it, this is a heck of a device for just $699. A Core M processor, which allows a fanless and therefore silent device, but still offers good performance, and much more performance than any other CPU which would...

Asus Zenbook UX305FA Subnotebook Review

Silent. With the Zenbook UX305FA, Asus offers a slim, light, silent 13.3-inch subnotebook with very good battery life. A price of just under 800 Euros (~$875) also makes it affordable.

Bright, contrast-rich IPS screen, Stable, high-end case, Very good input devices, Silent operation, Hardly gets warmer, Fast SSD, Maintainable, USB-to-Ethernet adapter

No keyboard light

In the verdict to the Zenbook sibling we wrote, "...the UX305 seems to us to be a well-balanced subnotebook that has much to offer for professional users and demanding private users alike." This is also true for the Zenbook UX305FA-FC004H. The buyer...

Asus Zenbook UX305 Subnotebook Review

Slimline. How much flatter does it get? The Core M is at its best, with 12 millimeters in an airless case. The performance lags behind the Haswell competitors, and the Zenbook inspires no wonder in terms of battery life. Still, input devices,...

Weak in competitor comparison, Stable, substantial case, High-feedback keyboard, Noiseless, low heat, TFT: very good color reproduction in factory condition, Matte, non-touch panel, Very high 4K resolution, optional FHD, fast SanDisk SSD, good system...

Mediocre webcam, Relatively weak contrast, No backlit keyboard, Speakers are average at best

The Zenbook UX305FA has a number of highlights in terms of workmanship, ergonomics, display, and keyboard. In view of its specialization for the longest possible battery life, the Core M doesn't impress us, since we are used to similarly long times...

Asus Zenbook UX305 / UX305FA review – the fanless ultraportable

If you're looking for a sleek and well built 13 inch ultraportable for light everyday activities, the Asus Zenbook UX305 could be the one for you. It's extremely competitive priced, as it starts at $699 for a solid configuration, it's very sleek, packs...

beautiful and sturdy built, packs a great matte display, fanless hardware, fast enough for basic everyday use, EXCELLENT price

the keyboard is not backlit, can get hot, somewhat slow Wi-Fi when not in close proximity of a router, only average battery life

Ok, so at the end of the day, if you want a compact and light 13-inch laptop that runs completely quiet, offers a nice display and enough horsepower for daily chores, the Zenbook UX305 could be the right device for you, especially since it retails for...

Asus ZenBook UX305FA Review and Ratings

An 800MHz Core M processor leaves this slim and sleek ultrabook a bit short on performance, but it's otherwise a great little laptop for its $699 price.

Thin, light, and attractive ; Handsome full HD display ; Comfortable keyboard and touch pad ; Good battery life ; Fanless and silent

Mediocre performance ; No backlit keyboard ; No touch screen

After fully recharging the laptop, we set up the machine in power-save mode (as opposed to balanced or high-performance mode) and make a few other battery-conserving tweaks in preparation for our unplugged video rundown test. In this test, we loop a...

Asus Zenbook UX305 Review: A Great Laptop for Just $700

The new MacBook is way too thin. The Dell XPS 13 is the Windows laptop to beat. But say you're looking for a slightly cheaper razor-thin machine? For just $700, the new Asus UX305 is a pretty damn good deal.
