Allrounder? The MSI CX640 is aimed at the multimedia notebook market, with its 15.6-inch display, new Intel Core i5-2410M, dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 520M GPU and Optimus graphics switching. We take a detailed look at the newcomer from Taiwan and...

Attractive design, Large range of ports, Integrated brightness sensor, Nvidia Optimus graphics switching, Acceptable multimedia performance, Good battery life with CPU graphics, The new hardware in the form of the Intel Core i5-2410M, the good...

Case is not fully robust, Sensitive glossy finish (near ports), Spongy input devices, High black value and low contrast, Most of all we would have liked to see a more robust case, better input devices, and more appropriate speakers for this type of laptop

MSI CX640 Laptop Review

Mainstream performance at budget price.

Decent CPU performance; Looks elegant; Low fan noise

Slow gaming performance; Slow HDD makes everything feel sluggish; Too much bloatware preloaded

On the right we have the big Power button, the multi-DVD drive, two USB 2.0 ports and the audio jacks. On the left is the power connector, LAN, VGA and HDMI ports, ending with two USB 3.0 ports. The front just has the memory card reader on the right...

MSI CX640

The CX640 is powered by a 2.3GHz Core i5-2410M processor, 4GB of memory and boasts a Nvidia GeForce GT 520M

Considering its retail price and healthy performance, the CX640 is a sensible buy for cash strapped users.

MSI CX640 review

A fast processor can't make up for the CX640's poor keyboard and terrible touchpad, and build quality isn't the best either.

MSI CX640 Notebook Review

The MSI CX640 uses Intel's notorious Sandy Bridge Core i5 and NVIDIA GT520M combining portability with performance. Will it be hit or miss?

Great entertainment mobile system ; Good battery life – up to 5 hours ; USB 3.0 ; Layout accommodates workspace ; Backup features ; Good colour representation

Touchpad buttons are stiffer than normal

For under £600 does the CX640 deliver for a mid-range Notebook? We think it does.
