Dell Inspiron 15-5558 Notebook Review

Dark screen. Dell sends a 15.6-inch all-rounder into the fight for buyers' favor with its Inspiron 15-5558. The laptop pleases with an IPS screen that, however, has a much too low brightness. Dell could have been a bit less tightfisted with the GPU.

Matte, high-contrast Full HD IPS screen, Plenty of storage, Barely heats up, 802.11 ac dual-band Wi-Fi, Maintenance cover

Dark screen, Fast Ethernet only, Comparatively low gaming performance

Dell has a 15.6-inch all-round device in its lineup with the Inspiron 15-5558. The installed processor offers enough power for routine use. The GeForce graphics core allows gaming at least to a certain degree. However, we would have expected a stronger...

Dell Inspiron 15-5558 review

Few laptops at this price offer the all-round goodness of the new 15-5558

The Inspiron 15-5558 straddles budget and midrange laptop camps, depending on configuration, asserting excellent build quality and decent performance as you’d expect of a £500+ design. The screen is one of the best you’ll find on a laptop around this...

Great laptop

Good price through Newegg! Thanks!

Does everything I need it to do, easily. Good battery life.

Every single time I go to open my laptop, I'm really irritated again that Dell chose to put their logo, or actually just the name Dell, upside-down for me on the outside of my laptop. That's so that it will be rightside-up for people walking by looking...

Great Value

Great machine for everyday use. I bumped up the RAM to 16GBs (GSkill 8GBs x 2 slots) and swapped out the HDD for a SSD (Samsung 850). Machine runs excellent for everyday office use, streaming videos (Hulu, Netflix, YouTube Red, etc) and social media....

Excellent everyday value machine RAM Expandable to 16GBs Easy to access upgradeable parts Nice texture on the palm rest

Glossy lid, shows fingerprints easily

Unexpectedly restarting 33 days after purchase

1 of 5 would not buy again

Seems like a pretty solid box, everything looks good, good touchscreen, great screen and audio

Slightly underpowered, or a little too much system lag a lot of the time (most noticeable when scrolling by trackpad) AND OH YEAH IT WAITS UNTIL JUST AFTER THE RETURN PERIOD IS OVER TO START CRASHING RANDOMLY EVERY DAY. Laaaaammmee

Bang for the buck

The processor is fairly new, Q1 2015 compared to many models on Newegg that have outdated processors, (2013 or so). Make sure you check the processor information on Ask.Intel.com

Got this during thanksgiving sale for around 380+ tax (Could not use the mobile coupon which would have saved me another $30) but a fantastic deal. The build quality is very good and comes with Windows 10 Home preinstalled. The laptop is a little slow...

-Lower memory to start with -Keyboard Backlight would be nice -No color options

Might have different CPU model

Overall for the price its a decent spec'd notebook with nice features. I sent my first one back as my first review gives it bad mark for having a different CPU then what spec sheet says. But when my replacement came with same issue. I contacted Dell...

Study and good build quality but not too heavy for a 15"

Can't adjust lighted keyboard, somewhat of a flex in keyboard in middle. Dell does appear to substitute the 5200U CPU for a 5250U which has similar performance but a slower base speed 1.6ghz vs 2.20 ghz. Turbo speed same.

Nice computer for schoolwork

Overall this is a really nice laptop to consider if you're doing school/office work a lot and need something light and portable. It lacks the aluminum accents of similar Asus models, but I strongly feel that despite the casing being all plastic the...

Lightweight computer with a impressively response processor, decent stock system memory, respectable hard drive, built-in DVD R/W drive, and comfortable keyboard/track pad. I really can't stress enough how nice it is to have a laptop with a keyboard...

Color accuracy and viewing angle of screen could be better, it would be nice to have a glass plate covering screen, no drive activity indicator, power supply feels dated and cheap. My only real complaint about this laptop is that the viewing angle and...

Some bad some good

I'm OK with the notebook until I found I had a slower CPU model then indicated on box. Is Dell doing a sly swap and putting different chips in? Or was this a manufacturing error? Otherwise I'm trying to decide if to return it, have Dell fix it or deal...

Nice study laptop, good Keyboard like the subtle back light

Mine came with a slower albeit slightly slower CPU model 5250u in it then indicated on box which was a 5200u 1.6Ghz vs 2.2 Ghz base frequency. So this is a fluke or is Dell pulling a fast one??
