Dell Latitude E6400

A trendier design and tons of configuration options make the Dell Latitude E6400 leaps-and-bounds-better than the previous D630.

Trendy brushed-aluminum look. Excellent battery life. Many configuration options. Anti-glare screen. Largest battery on a business laptop. First-rate keyboard and mouse buttons.

Palm rests could have used the lid's design treatment. Real aluminum metals would have been more rugged.

Dell Latitude E6400 review: Dell Latitude E6400

Dell Latitude E6400

Sharp new design; tons of business-friendly features; highly configurable; excellent battery.

Merely average performance; somewhat heavy.

A total revamp of Dell's ubiquitous business laptop line, the Latitude E6400 offers Intel's latest Centrino 2 mobile platform and introduces a brushed-metal design that works at home or office, but the real highlight here is the long battery life.

Dell Latitude E6400 XFR Review

The Dell Latitude E6400 XFR is a 14.1" rugged business notebook, based off the standard E6400 with a new chassis built around the same internal components to make it rugged and waterproof. The chassis offers completely dust and weatherproof access...

Very fast compared to other rugged notebooks ; Very bright sunlight viewable display ; Optional 12-cell "slice" battery pack

Heavy use of plastic ; High pricetag

The touchpad is recessed into the palmrest, allowing it to be fully weather-sealed against dust and water intrusion. The touchpad surface is very responsive and has minimal lag in our testing. The surface texture is a rough matte finish, providing...

Dell Latitude E6400 Review

Unlike the previous generation of Dell Latitude noteboks that featured rounded edges and curves, the Dell Latitude E-series features "down to business" industrial design. The chassis is entirely made of magnesium alloy with plenty of 90-degree edges...

Very tough structure and rugged overall chassis design ; Excellent selection of ports and fantastic docking station ; Excellent battery life ... particularly with extra battery slice ; Solid performance ; Remains very cool where your body comes into...

Industrial design (although cool) looks a little "unfinished ; Build quality is durable, but alloy chassis feels thin in some spots ; ControlPoint software can be frustrating ; Trackpoint/touchpoint is better than the one on the D630, but still not great

Overall, corporate clients who are looking for the next generation of business notebooks from Dell have plenty of reasons to buy the E6400. Dell made every effort to improve the Latitude family, and the E6400 is a great 14-inch business notebook. That...
