Dell Precision 5530 2-in-1

Dell's Precision 5530 2-in-1 takes the company's XPS 15 2-in-1 convertible and turns it into a mobile workstation with solid performance and a spiffy 4K touch screen, though like all 15.6-inch hybrids it's too heavy for tablet use.

Dazzling display. Two Thunderbolt 3 and two USB-C ports. Near-perfect pen input.

Heavy and unwieldy in tablet mode. 16GB RAM ceiling at this writing. 4K screen hurts battery life. Webcam placement makes you look pinheaded.

Bottom Line: Dell's Precision 5530 2-in-1 takes the company's XPS 15 2-in-1 convertible and turns it into a mobile workstation with solid performance and a spiffy 4K touch screen, though like all 15.6-inch hybrids, it's too heavy for tablet use.

Dell Precision 5530

Dell splices its XPS 15 DNA with its Precision mobile workstation line to create the 5530, a lightweight basher with overpowering six-core Xeon and Nvidia Quadro chops and a spiffy 4K touch panel.

Remarkably thin and light. Formidable six-core Xeon horsepower. Gorgeous 4K touch screen.

Expensive. Unusable webcam placement. No middle button (or any buttons) on touchpad. Only one Thunderbolt 3 port.

Bottom Line: Dell splices its XPS 15 DNA with its Precision mobile workstation line to create the 5530, a lightweight basher with overpowering six-core Xeon and Nvidia Quadro chops and a spiffy 4K touch panel.

Dell Precision 5530 2-in-1 (i7-8706G, Radeon WX Vega M GL, 4K UHD) Workstation Review

Kaby Lake-G workstation. As if Kaby Lake-G wasn't niche enough already, Dell has gone the extra mile by offering a workstation convertible equipped with the rare Intel-AMD CPU. The end result is one of the most powerful 15-inch convertible workstations...

optional AI-based custom performance optimizer software ; bright, high quality FHD and 4K UHD touchscreen options ; included USB Type-C adapters, WACOM pen ; very powerful CPU and GPU for the size ; full sRGB and AdobeRGB coverage ; portable and thin...

pulse-width modulation on lower brightness levels ; slow display response times; increased ghosting ; reduced performance when on batteries ; lacks many traditional workstation ports ; stylus buttons have poor feedback ; only one internal storage bay ;...

If you're a traditional workstation user who wants integrated VGA, full-size ports, thicker chassis, ECC memory, Smart Card readers, more storage space, E-Port compatibility, and easier serviceability, then the Precision 5530 2-in-1 is not for you. A...

Dell Precision 5530 (Xeon E-2176M, Quadro P2000) Workstation Review

Refinement. The Precision 5530 is, in many ways, what the Precision 5520 should have been. While the updated machine still struggles with thermal throttling, CPU stability and performance are improved. The GPU has also been upgraded without much...

portable size ; excellent build quality ; striking case design and color ; good workstation performance ; CPU is much more stable than Precision 5520 ; GPU is rock solid ; fast storage ; trackpad is accurate ; Thunderbolt 3 ; very fast SD card reader ;...

keyboard key caps may be too small for some users ; mediocre port selection ; despite even pitch, fans can get loud ; CPU get very hot under load ; oscillating CPU performance during long workloads ; some throttling under heavy loads ; no ECC RAM...

This is more like it. Dell has tried for three years to perfect the thin-and-light workstation, and the Precision 5530 is their best effort yet. This is the machine we were hoping the Precision 5520 was going to be, and it is good to see such...

Dell Precision 5530 review: A powerful well-built mobile workstation with a fantastic display

The Dell Precision 5530 is a powerful mobile workstation with a brilliant display and solid build quality meant for working creatives.

The Dell Precision 5530 is a serious contender for the hearts of content creators. Especially if those creators are looking at the maxed out version of this device and have the money to sink into it. It won’t disappoint. It’s a powerful machine with an...
