Dell XPS M1530

The Dell XPS M1530, the XPS line's middle child, has a slot-loading Blu-Ray drive.

Has the same design as the award-winning XPS M1330. Awesome raw horsepower. Integrated cellular modem. Slot-loading Blu-ray burner. Excellent typing experience.

Heavier than the competition. Batteries are not compatible with the M1330.

Dell XPS M1530 review: Dell XPS M1530

Dell XPS M1530

Thin, sexy design; strong performance; includes media remote control and HDMI output.

Not as revolutionary as the previous 13-inch version; fewer configuration options than Dell's Inspiron line.

Dell's turn toward a "design-first" philosophy continues to pay off with the XPS M1530, easily the best-looking 15-inch laptop in recent memory.

Review Dell XPS M1530 Notebook

Compact Gaming by Dell. Dell's XPS logo indicates highest perform

Stylish design and use of high-quality materials; Case stability; Well equipped with ports; A lot of accessories; Blu-Ray drive available; User-friendly keyboard; Very good 3D performance; Low noise emissions in the idle mode; Low surface temperatures;...

Smaller weaknesses regarding workmanship; Display surface reflects heavily; Narrow viewing angles; Loud DVD drive

Dell XPS M1530 Review

There are some notable differences other than size between the M1530 and M1330 however. The M1530 can be configured with a more powerful Nvidia 8600M GT graphics card for boosted gaming performance over the XPS M1330 that only offers up to the Nvidia...

Thin and light ... for a 15.4" Dell notebook ; Nvidia 8600M GT card option uses high-performance GDDR3 memory ; Reasonable battery life ; Nice keyboard, touchpad and media buttons

Only three USB ports ; Slot-loading drive is loud during loading and ejecting ; Hard drive noise is magnified by the case/mount design ; Limited screen options at the time of this writing

Overall, the Dell XPS M1530 is a solid addition to the Dell notebook lineup. We praised the smaller XPS M1330 for having "a design that is second to none in its price range" but we didn't feel quite as strong about the design of the larger M1530. While...

Dell XPS M1530

We wondered if Dell was making a passive-aggressive statement when it shipped us its new XPS M1530 in flamingo pink. Perhaps the boys in Austin think the MacBook Pro is a bit effete, so the pink is fitting. Or perhaps someone on the reviews team just...

Feature-packed and full of muscle; beautiful screen; built-in EVDO

We don't really like the finish, aesthetically; some weird usability choices; some bloatware remains

Maybe. See our final analysis on page 4 of the main article.

Dell XPS M1530

Don't let the slim design and relatively light heft fool you. This XPS is one powerful gaming portable with an impressive feature set for work and play.

Excellent gaming performance, Touch-sensitive buttons, Slim and light for a midsize machine, Good feature set which includes a fingerprint sensor, Mini-remote control stored in the ExpressCard slot

No subwoofer, Few USB ports, No modem

Review: Dell XPS M1530 Review

The XPS M1530 takes 15-inch Dell notebooks upscale.

Relatively stylish, intelligent design ; Strong choices of CPU, graphics for the price ; Free of nagging trialware ; Good keyboard and expansion ports

1GB RAM far too little for games, HD video, Vista ; Downward-facing fan makes notebook uncomfortably hot in heavy use ; Trackpad on the review unit is partly unresponsive after waking up ; 9-cell battery doesn't add enough longevity to be worthwhile...

design, heat, and noiseDell has come a long way from its earlier days, when many of its notebook designs were more likely to be rebadged generic designs than custom hardware. While the M1530 is less of a shock than it might have been otherwise

Dell XPS M1530 Review

The Dell XPS M1530 picks up from the popular portable XPS M1330 notebook and carries on the tradition of a nicely designed and excellent performing notebook. The one main difference being that the M1530 is a 15.4″ screen notebook while the M1330 is a...
