HP EliteBook 840 G1 review: A gem of a business laptop

With super-easy access to internals for upgrades and repairs, good looks, and comfortable ergonomics, this 14-inch business laptop sedately shines.

Sedately stylish ; Good performance ; Extremely easy to service

Slippery eraser-head tracking stick ; It's a fingerprint magnet

The HP EliteBook 840 G1 has down-to-business looks, a great design, robust performance, and all the correct options for a business laptop. But you should try its eraser-head cursor control before you buy.

HP EliteBook 840 G1 review: A solid but unspectacular Ultrabook

Summary: HP's slimmed-down enterprise Ultrabook has plenty to recommend it, but it's definitely more of a workhorse than a thoroughbred.

HP EliteBook 840 G1 review

If you've specifically chosen a laptop with a 14-inch screen then the quality of that screen will be crucial, and the EliteBook doesn't disappoint here. The 1920x1080 resolution display produces a bright, sharp image with excellent all-round viewing...

It's a shame that the EliteBook doesn't include a solid-state drive that can really make the most of its powerful processor and GPU, but this is still a well-designed and versatile laptop that will appeal to many business users. The high-quality...

HP EliteBook 840G1: Sometimes it's an Ultrabook, sometimes it's not

Review At a recent event when HP was handing out Elitebooks and other gadgetry to the great and the good of the UK's tech press, a thought crossed my mind as the options presented themselves. Shall I go for the eminently portable Elitebook 820 G1...

HP EliteBook 840 G1

For some reason this is classed as a business product. For that reason I am told it comes with Windows 7 Pro but also Windows 8 upgrade ready on the unit at no extra cost so you can choose. I was sent the non-touch version.

The HP EliteBook 840 G1 measures 33x23.5x1cm the last figure increases to 1.5cm at the back. It weighs 1.8kilos. The viewable screen is 31x17.5cm giving the notional diagonal imperial screen measurement of 14 inches, the screen resolution 1920x1080...

HP EliteBook 840 G1 review

The HP EliteBook 840 G1 is a solidly built, enterprise-focused ultrabook, which offers businesses high performance coupled with a vast array of security services.

Robustly built, solid security services, Haswell

Slightly chunky, battery life isn't as good as HP claims

Great Laptop and Customer Service

Monica was a great help with customer support. She responds in a timely manner and was very helpful to fulfill my requests when my laptop speakers were no working and was able to work around the situation. I don't see why people would dislike this...

Only SSD ; Lightweight ; Compact ; Battery life last around 8 hours doing regular work ; What more can you ask for

None
