HP EliteBook 840 G5

The midrange EliteBook 840 G5 is a first-class 14-inch business laptop that challenges its up-the-stack HP kin, though you'll want to upgrade from the dim default screen.

Sleek design. Good battery life. Available 4K and privacy-screen display options, as well as discrete graphics. Comfortable backlit keyboard.

Expensive with options. Base screen is dreary.

Bottom Line: The midrange EliteBook 840 G5 is a first-class 14-inch business laptop that challenges its up-the-stack HP kin, though you'll want to upgrade from the dim default screen.

HP EliteBook 840 G5 (i7-8550U, SSD, FHD) Laptop Review

Privacy screen at the touch of a button. When it comes to Hewlett Packard's top-of-the-line model from their EliteBook 840 G5 series, the manufacturer is not fiddling about. On board you will find a very bright IPS display with a privacy screen, an LTE...

very bright, high-contrast IPS display ; Full HD resolution ; attractive and stable case ; many security features ; NVMe SSD ; good system performance ; comfy input devices ; Thunderbolt 3 ; docking port

mediocre battery life ; no memory card reader ; occasional electronic crackle ; PWM

The EliteBook 840 G5 belongs to the luxury class of business laptops. Our test device is the top-of-the-line model. In terms of the laptop's configuration, HP makes no compromises. The Core i7 processor provides enough processing power for all the...

HP EliteBook 840 G5 (i5-8250U, SSD, Full HD) Laptop Review

A lot of changes! After HP only gave its business notebook a quick brush-up last year, a lot of changes have been made to the new EliteBook 840. There is the Kaby Lake Refresh processor and a new case redesign. This does not necessarily mean that new...

good looking, stable case ; bright, matte IPS ; no PWM ; many security features ; good system performance ; comfortable input devices ; USB Type-C with Thunderbolt ; case temperatures remain low ; docking port

display has a strong blue cast ex-works ; SSD not as good as we expected ; average battery runtimes ; no card reader ; processor cannot reach its full potential

The HP EliteBook 840 G5 is a high-quality business device, now in its fifth generation. The successor of the HP EliteBook 840 G4 has been given a new design and an up-to-date Kaby Lake Refresh processor, although this cannot reach its full potential....

HP EliteBook 840 G5 review: An excellent option for security-sensitive businesses

A great choice for security-conscious companies, with a great screen privacy mode

Fantastic security features ; Feels sturdy ; Great screen

Strange trackpoint position ; Not the best battery life

While I wouldn’t rush out to buy the EliteBook 840 G5, there’s much to like here: the conferencing features; the extra levels of privacy; the convenience of built-in Ethernet and HDMI ports to accompany Thunderbolt 3. This versatility, and prices...
