HP Envy x2 (2017) hands-on review

HP's handsome Envy x2 will make you ask ‘where can I pre-order?'

Stunning design ; Handsome keyboard cover ; Attractive 1,920 x 1,200 display ; 20 hours of battery life ; Standard LTE

Just one USB-C port ; Pricing is a big unknown

HP Envy x2 review: a tablet / laptop hybrid that fails to deliver the complete package

The HP Envy x2 is an attractive laptop / tablet hybrid, but its Atom processor doesn't offer great performance, and its keyboard disappoints.

Slick, lightweight design ; Good battery life (in laptop mode) ; Decent IPS display

Uncomfortable keyboard ; Netbook-grade performance

Laptop / tablet hybrids have their work cut out for them: providing a fluid experience as both a portable slate and a productivity-minded laptop -- let alone with an Atom processor doing the grunt work -- is a tall order. Making the design comfortable...

HP's Envy x2 has the same processor as a Samsung Galaxy S8

Putting a smartphone processor inside a Windows laptop is an interesting idea, but too expensive for its own good.

The HP Envy x2 looks slick, has terrific battery life and comes with LTE connectivity. The included HP Digital Pen lets you take advantage of the sharp 12.3-inch touchscreen without smudging it up.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor that powers the Envy x2 just isn't powerful enough. It only has one port, a USB-C slot.

While it has many strengths, the HP Envy x2 doesn't have enough processing power to make it an easy recommendation.

HP Envy x2 (Snapdragon 835)

With always-on technology, a Snapdragon processor, and an LTE modem, the HP Envy x2 is poised to usher in a new class of hyper-mobile Windows PCs.

Power-sipping Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. LTE connectivity. Claimed long battery life.

Weak keyboard and touchpad. Uncomfortable for use on your lap.

Bottom Line: With always-on technology, a Snapdragon processor, and an LTE modem, the HP Envy x2 is poised to usher in a new class of hyper-mobile Windows PCs.

HP Envy X2 (11-g012nr)

The HP Envy X2 (11-g012nr) is a slick-looking detachable tablet laptop with all-day battery life, but some may balk at price and the limitations of an Atom processor.

Sleek-looking, comfortable design. Portability and productivity in one device. Windows 8. All-day battery life.

Atom processor. Pricey for an underpowered device.

HP Envy x2 (Qualcomm)

The Qualcomm-based HP Envy x2 is an incredibly long-lasting laptop with fast 4G built in, but it suffers from mediocre performance.

Amazing battery life; 4G built in; Comfortable keyboard; Beautiful display; Runs cool

Sluggish performance; Doesn't run some Windows apps

HP Envy x2 15-c000ng Convertible Review

Fan-less. HP's 15.6-inch convertible wants to score with an energy-efficient processor from Intel's new Broadwell lineup, which enables a fan-less design in the Envy. A Full HD, IPS screen and good battery life are also part of the bundle.

High-contrast Full HD IPS screen, Appealing design, Decent battery life, Fan-less operation, Low power consumption, Keyboard backlight

No recovery DVD

HP's Envy x2 15-c000ng is the first device with a Core M-5Y10 processor that we have tested to date. The CPU fared well and can provide enough computing power for routine use. At the same time, it allows a fan-less design. Consequently, the Envy is...
