HP Envy 13 review: A slim, light, and inexpensive workhorse with discrete graphics

The budget-priced HP Envy 13 boasts a trim profile, solid everyday performance, and a dedicated Nvidia graphic card.

Slim and light design ; Bright 4K display ; Solid quad-core performance ; Relatively inexpensive

Overly sensitive trackpad ; Battery life could be a tad better

With its discrete graphics card, the HP Envy 13 is a thin-and-light laptop that’s actually got some modest game, although “modest” is the key word. While the Envy 13’s Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card is a vast improvement over Intel’s integrated UHD...

HP Envy 13 review (2020, Wood Edition)

Stunning looks but one glaring fault

Gorgeous design with real wood panel ; Bright, vivid 4K display ; Comfortable keyboard ; Good selection of ports

Wood touchpad needs refining ; Disappointing battery life ; Tons of bloatware ; Limited to 8GB of RAM (for now)

HP's Envy 13 Wood Edition has a striking design with a real wood inlay, but poor battery life and a troublesome touchpad rot an otherwise-excellent laptop.

HP Envy 13-d020ng Subnotebook Review

Appealing. With the Envy 13, HP delivers a stylish subnotebook. The inner values are also okay: powerful processor, good battery runtimes, fast SSD, and a matte IPS Full HD display.

IPS display ; Full-HD resolution ; aluminum case ; very good speakers

no maintenance hatch

The HP Envy 13 is a stylish 13.3-inch subnotebook. Its slim aluminum case is appealing from the first glance. Inside, a powerful processor provides sufficient performance. The graphics core allows limited use of computer games. The computer hardly gets...

HP Envy 13-d000ng Notebook Review

Value for money. The Envy 13 from HP is a fresh candidate for the subnotebook crown. We can say this upfront: It cannot quite keep up with the current leaders like the Dell XPS 13 and Apple MacBook in respect to the performance. But it does not have to...

aluminum chassis with very good build quality, QHD display with high color accuracy, low temperature and noise development in all situations, business-capable security features, excellent speakers, very good price-performance ratio

mediocre webcam, input devices could be better, low amount of RAM, not expandable, below-average battery runtime

The HP Envy 13-d000ng is an average device when you just look at the test results. Its QHD panel stands out from the masses, but does not set any records (even though the high sRGB coverage and the low color deviations are good). The performance...

HP Envy 13 Review

For many people, spending $1,000 on a laptop is not feasible, even if high-end hardware is important. This is where the HP Envy 13 comes in: it packs hardware that's comparable to a $1,000 laptop in a MacBook Air-like package, complete with a price...

Thin all-metal design looks pretty nice. Fantastic, responsive ultrabook keyboard. Good range of hardware at a great price.

Below average display. No USB Type-C or Thunderbolt 3. Lacklustre storage performance.

There are many aspects to the HP Envy 13 that make it a great laptop, particularly for users after something closer to the budget end of the price spectrum.

HP Envy 13 (2019) review: Great performance, great price

Great as a day-to-day laptop, hundreds of pounds less than less powerful competition, the HP can even enable a bit of gaming thanks to its Nvidia GPU.

Good value ; Great screen ; A hint of gaming ability

Plastic trackpad ; Not much more powerful than last year’s model

This isn’t all that different to last year’s version, bar a better quality screen. But it’s still one of our favourite laptops to recommend, with plenty of power and substance at a very competitive price.

HP Envy 13 (2018) review

An ultra-thin work machine that can also get its game on? HP's latest gives it a go

Competitive hardware for the cash ; Dedicated graphics can handle light gaming ; Respectable battery life for an ultraportable

Touchpad can be a bit cumbersome ; Not exactly a silent runner ; Screen quality only average

The Envy 13 is a versatile mid-range ultraportable that might cut a corner or two to save some pennies, but makes up for it elsewhere. Few sub-£1k laptops can say the same
