HP ZBook 14u G4 review

The HP ZBook 14u G4 is a portable workhorse, but it compromises on performance.

Thin and light for a mobile workstation ; Solid build quality and MIL-SPEC 810g testing ; More than adequate connectivity ; Good audio quality

Underpowered for professional applications ; Display is only average ; Keyboard and touchpad don’t stand out

HP has made a machine that’s a perfect fit for a distinct class of users — those who need something that’s thin and light, but also want workstation-grade reliability and durability. For those people, the ZBook 14u G4 is an excellent choice.

HP ZBook 14u G4 (7500U, FirePro W4190M) Workstation Review

The consumer workstation. The new ZBook 14u encompasses exactly 14 inches and is for those who seek a reliable companion above all else. We are quite fond of the overall package, but the hardware choices leave a lot to be desired.

build quality of the case ; comfortable input devices ; low system noise ; a lot of ports, including a VGA port and a full-sized DisplayPort output ; battery life

really outdated AMD GPU ; CPU is too slow for a mobile workstation ; poor TN display ; no Thunderbolt 3 port ; inadequate AC adapter

HP achieves exactly what we expect with the ZBook 14u: All the essentials and the security features of the classic ZBook series put together in a lower-priced package. The hardware inside the device is made up of a mixture of consumer and workstation...

HP ZBook 14u G4 Mobile Workstation review: Portable and robust, but performance disappoints

With a 14-inch FHD display and weighing in at 1.64kg (3.61lbs), the ZBook 14u G4 is the smallest and lightest of HP's latest-generation mobile workstations, starting at £831 (ex. VAT) and rising to £2,073 as you upgrade CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and other...

Sturdy military-grade build quality ; Plenty of ports and slots ; Good security features ; ISV certification for workstation-class apps ; Mobile broadband option

Disappointing GPU performance ; Comparatively bulky
