Lenovo ThinkPad X280

In the X280, Lenovo gives the ThinkPad X200 series its biggest redesign in ages, serving up a winning take on the 12.5-inch ultraportable.

Sleek design with MIL-SPEC durability. Excellent screen and keyboard. Good variety of ports.

Loses its predecessors' hot-swappable battery. 12.5-inch display a tad small versus current 13.3-inchers.

Bottom Line: In the X280, Lenovo gives the ThinkPad X200 series its biggest redesign in ages, serving up a winning take on the 12.5-inch ultraportable.

Lenovo ThinkPad X280 Review

Lenovo's ThinkPad X280 squeezes a gorgeous display and good keyboard into a compact package, but its battery life could be better.

Bright, colorful display; Solid performance; Good typing experience; Plenty of ports

Below-average battery life

Lenovo ThinkPad X280 Review

One of the best business ultraportable product lines on the market, Lenovo's ThinkPad X Series, was recently updated with a new model: the ThinkPad X280. First introduced during CES 2018, this new model brings the same aesthetic of the ThinkPad X...

Slimmer, lighter, and less boxy ; Thunderbolt 3 + Dock support ; Display is very bright with matte finish ; Rapid Charge and excellent standby battery life ; More secure fingerprint technology

Still no Ultra HD display option ; Removed Ethernet port ; Removed hot-swappable battery

Lenovo ThinkPad X280 (i5-8250U, FHD) Laptop Review

Mini Carbon. With a fresh design and a clearly thinner case, Lenovo is trying to make its traditional 12-inch ThinkPad X Series more attractive. In this review we will be explaining why this approach works well, and what features we miss despite the...

high quality and lightweight case ; excellent ThinkPad I/O ; improved serviceability ; matte IPS Display with over 300 cd/m² ; the case remains relatively cool ; the fan is usually quiet ; Thunderbolt 3 onboard ; dual-channel RAM

non-removable battery ; RJ45 Ethernet missing ; microSD card reader hard to reach ; poor CPU performance management ; weak colour space average ; case large enough for a 13.3-inch display

The X280 is probably the most comprehensive redesign of the current generation of ThinkPads, a factor that excites us about this device. It is a conceptionally different laptop than the ThinkPad X270, which may well scare some of its fans. Overall, the...

Lenovo ThinkPad X280 and X380 (2018): Lenovo introduces thinner, lighter X-series laptops

Coffee Lake chips, Windows Hello support and rapid charging are highlights for new ThinkPad X

The ThinkPad X280 and X380 may not look particularly sleek or sexy but they are a solid step forward for the ThinkPad X series. The new Coffee Lake chips should move performance on and although there isn’t much in the way of new design, the fact that...
