Its black, its round, it has some glass in it! Thats about as much as I know - I bought this for my husband for his birthday and he loves it. He uses it to take pics of the kids and has mentioned it produces pin sharp pics.

Excellent shallow depth of field at full open aperture. Very Sharp. Better value and I suspect higher quality of construction than latest version but only consider if your camera can drive the focus system for autofocus. Very impressed with this lens....
