Pentax HD FA 43mm F1.9 Limited Review

Slim and sharp with f/1.9 aperture ; Optics show exceptional character ; Aperture ring for 35mm SLR and mirrorless cameras ; Rounded aperture blades for circular highlights ; HD coating improves flare resistance ; Anti-smudge fluorine SP coating

Skips weather protection and Quick Shift focus ; Chromatic aberration is apparent ; Shows some focus breathing ; Busy bokeh look isn't for everyone

The Pentax HD FA 43mm F1.9 Limited introduces some small, but thoughtful, upgrades to one of photography's timeless lenses.

Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited

The Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited is the oldest lens that Pentax still makes, but its performance has withstood the test of time and it captures the perfect standard-angle field of view on a full-frame camera.

Sharp. Compact. Wide aperture. Excellent build quality. True standard-angle design.

Slow, noisy autofocus. Some barrel distortion. Dim corners at wide apertures. Omits weather sealing.

Conclusions The Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited is just as much a gem today as it was when it was introduced nearly two decades ago. It's small, light, nicely built, and, most importantly, deadly sharp. You don't expect such a compact lens to capture...

Pentax 43mm f/1.9 Limited SMC P-FA Review

The Pentax limited edition lenses show off a polish and refinement you don't see in average lenses. From the first moment you mount the 43mm ƒ/1.9 you can tell it's been manufactured with an eye to detail.

Pentax smc FA 43 mm f/1.9 Limited

No other company has as many lenses with untypical parameters as Pentax. For instance when most of companies feature a 85 mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 device in their line-up as a typical portrait lens, in the case of the Pentax such a lens has been withdrawn...

solid, metal casing and high build quality ; sensational image quality in the frame centre ; moderate distortion ; slight astigmatism ; low vignetting ; good work against bright light ; high transmission ; fast and accurate autofocus

weak image quality on the edge of the frame ; huge chromatic aberration ; monstrous coma ; noisy autofocus ; price/quality ratio could have been better

Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited - Lab Test / Review

The Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited produced mixed feelings during the tests (performed at 16mp). This is in so far surprising that the lens performed rather nicely in our initial test based on the Pentax K10D (at 10mp). The center performance is...

Pentax SMC-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited

The Pentax SMC FA 43mm f/1.9 is another "Limited" lenses made by Pentax. At around 550€/US$ it is certainly not a budget item especiallyfor a "normal" lens but in a swamp of budget oriented plastic lenses thehigh quality Pentax lens makes a welcome...

Similar to its cousins (DA 40mm f/2.8, FA 50mm f/1.4) the Pentax SMC-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limitedis a great performer with only few weaknesses. At f/1.9 the contrast and resolution is somewhatsoft but beyond the quality is superb and probably as good as it...

REVIEW: SMC Pentax-FA 43mm f/1.9 Limited Lens

This is the second of the three Limited lenses from Pentax, originally designed for film and aiming to be of the highest manufacturing and optical standards. The 43mm was actually the first to be released, alongside the MZ-3 film SLR in 1998. It was...

High quality of construction; Compact; Built on lens hood; High quality results; Fast maximum aperture

High Price

Although a fairly unusual focal length for APS-C DSLRs the 43mm proves to be a versatile lens with excellent imaging properties. It is fairly expensive, but suggests comparison with Leica quality at a fraction of Leica prices. In this sense it is good...

Expensive But Excellent for Low Light

Excellent where no flash is permitted or you don't want to use one.Equivalent to about a 64mm lens in a film SLR.If you do low light a lot, then the price is worth it. [...]
