Sigma's 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS: Good quality, competitive price

The 70-200mm market is crowded, but serious photographers looking for a good telephoto zoom lens should seriously consider Sigma's high-end but relatively affordable telephoto zoom.

The ; has the fast f2.8 aperture of in-house competitors, but not their high price. It delivers effective image stabilization, as well as solid sharpness, bokeh, and durability.

It lacks weather sealing, and the autofocus falls a step short.

Versatile, sturdy, and built with high-quality optics, the Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM offers a good value, although it's not exactly cheap.

Sigma AF 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM APO macro (Nikon) - Review / Test Report

The Sigma AF 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM APO macro is pretty impressive large aperture tele zoom lens. The resolution figures are on a very good to excellent level and neither distortions, vignetting nor CAs are really field relevant on an APS-C DSLR. The...

Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX HSM

Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX HSM review.

Optical quality; Weight and balance; Performance with converters; Tripod mount

Autofocus slightly slower than marque lenses

A pleasing improvement over it's predecessor which is well built despite the weight saving. It feels right. The petal hood is also an improvement that is a better fit, especially when reversed. The addition of HSM makes a considerable improvement to...

SIGMA 70~200mm f2.8 APO EX lens ]

The goods: One of the reasons for buying a single lens reflex digital camera is that it can be fitted with a choice of lenses. Which is all very well, but which lenses? The lenses made by the camera manufacturer or those from third party makers, which...

This lens focusses quickly and is pin sharp, even at the maximum aperture. Resolution and contrast are excellent

The tripod mount collar – which can be removed – obstructs the zoom ring and the zoom mechanism is stiff and not as smooth as the price leads us to expect

This is a brilliant lens for portraiture, but its size means that you will never be able to sneak up on your subject unnoticed, even from a distance. Keep in mind that a 200mm focal length is the equivalent of 300mm when fitted to a digital camera, so...

REVIEW: Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX HSM

This is possibly the most desired additional lens type for any SLR owner, reaching out from the top end of the ‘standard' range to medium telephoto and one that is almost universally offered by all the manufacturers. At a wide-open aperture of f/2.8,...
