Boxee Box review

It's a little strange that the Boxee Box by D-Link feels like a late entrant in this year's crowded smart TV market -- the core Boxee software has been

Excellent codec support ; Great remote ; Solid Flash video playback

Not enough content at launch ; Glitchy ; Remote lacks trackpad

Boxee Box by D-Link: Media Streaming With Style

Editors' Note: Review updated on March 28, 2011, to reflect new services and content.

Stylish set-top box with lots of free and paid Web and local network content ; Simple, handsome user interface ; 1080p support ; Cool two-sided remote with QWERTY keyboard

Lack of mouse makes conventional browsing awkward ; Hollywood blocks most major network content ; 1080p video streaming froze at times and requires lot of bandwidth ; Documentation could be better

The stylish Boxee Box by D-Link does a great job of making video from diverse sources accessible, and will be even greater when bugs are fixed and new content deals signed.

Review: DLink Boxee Box

No longer vaporware, the Boxee Box is here. Too bad it's one big steaming pile of fail.

Promise of easy-to-access internet video. Works with a wide range of video services, including Netflix and Vudu. “Watch later” button lets you time-shift YouTube videos from work to home

Quirky interface. Some TV shows appear in the menu, but won’t actually play. Much of the web’s video actually looks really terrible when blown up on a big HDTV

D-Link Boxee Box review: D-Link Boxee Box

D-Link Boxee Box

Attractive user interface; two-sided RF remote includes a QWERTY keyboard; quirky cubelike design; built-in browser that can play Flash video; apps currently include Pandora and MLB.TV; extensive codec support for local content.

Basic apps like Netflix, Vudu, and Hulu Plus are promised soon, but not available yet; content holders like Hulu are blocking Boxee's browser; double-sided remote has an assortment of usability issues; Boxee's online TV show data is frequently outdated...

The Boxee Box by D-Link has some innovative design choices and a promising user interface, but mainstream content is mostly missing in action until future firmware updates are available.

D-Link Boxee Box review

Boxee got a head start on the Internet TV revolution, with many users becoming familiar with the open-source media-streaming platform because it was an easy way to add functionality to their first-gen Apple TVs (albeit through an unauthorized hack)....

Boxee Box by D-Link

Robust file support. Well-designed user interface. Quality search tool scans attached hard drives, Internet for content you seek. Streams content wirelessly from PCs on same network. Solid digital connectivity, along with analog outputs for audio

Many key features—Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu—aren't fully available at launch. Remote is awkwardly designed. Set-up requires multiple firmware updates, installations, reboots

D-Link Boxee Box Review

People who enjoy building their own computing hardware will be familiar with the Boxee name. But if you don't fall into that camp, you're probably wondering what the heck this weird-looking, not-exactly-a-cube thingy is all about. The answer comes in...

and Sony's Internet TV. The box links to your network using either its 100Mb/s Ethernet port or its 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter, and it can host USB storage devices and SD/MMC memory cards. It connects to your TV or A/V receiver by way of its HDMI port to...

Boxee Box by D-Link

Most likely, Boxee Box by D-Link will fulfill all your streaming media and home-ripped movie-watching needs. It's cool like that.

Though set-top boxes that allow you to stream web based media onto your high definition television have been around for a while now, no device seems to have a better grip on the multiplicity of multimedia better than D-Link's Boxee Box.

Review: D-Link Boxee Box

In my never ending quest to find the best way to share all my media in my house, I have tried just about everything. I finally settled on using stand alone PCs hooked up to each TV for playing shared media because this offers the most options, but it...

So far I am happy. I cannot quite say the Boxee Box is perfect, but with a little bit of learning and tweaking it is serving its purpose. I would certainly change the design to be more flat so that it could hide behind or under a TV better. Also the...
