MiniX Neo X5-116A

If all you're going to do is use the MiniX Neo X5-116A as a media player you'll do adequately, but trying to do anything more with the device will require the patience of Job.

Inexpensive for an unlocked Android device. Fully open, stock Android. Compact with plenty of ports. Has built-in storage.

You need a touch screen. Clunky with air mouse remote. Really made for tinkerers and Android fans who are tinkerers. Interface is in 1,280 by 800 resolution, even on a 1080p screen.

In Use and Conclusions The Neo X5-116A is a very customizable system, and that will add an intimidation factor for novice users. If you've tried building your own home theater PC using Windows, Mac OS, and Linux, the Neo X5-116A might be a good project...

The best buy of 2013

Incomplete product with missing basic feature

Box does not do 1080p despite being claimed on box. All updates are not done over OTA and erase everything so you have to start from scratch each time. Support people feel you are annoying customer when you try to resolve issues

Just not there yet if you want to have reliable way to play 1080p

Not quite ready for primetime

I received this unit in the mail and the box wasn't shrink-wrapped, it was held shut with a rubber-band. The cables inside had obviously already been used, and I did not buy a refurbished/discounted item Never-the-less, it still booted right up when...

Small ; Low power ; Versatile video output

Difficult to flash - USB cable doesn't stay connected ; Android support for set-top boxes is minimal ; Built-in media player interfaces are confusing for the non-technical minded (my daughter and wife) ; Video playback from a NAS via SMB was...

Minix NEO-X5-116A

Watch out when buying this device from NewEgg because this does not come with remote control. For litte extra, get it from A ma zon site which come with remote.

install and run XBMC from this device without problems. (this is my main reason to buy X5)

Can't play 7GB ISO file but play fine with 4GB ISO using XBMC ; No Remote control., I have to use wireless mouse to control program ; Can't hide X5 because I have to reach X5 each time to power on the device by pressing the button on the box

Works Great

Simple, easy to use, able to install custom roms and revert back to stock if needed. Finless Bob at freaktab says it is the best TV stick he has ever used and I agree. One of the best and cheapest option for turning your TV into an android player...

A gamble

I wanted to love this device and use it as an HTPC replacement. But it just isn't viable. I upgraded the Android OS firmware on unit multiple times, tried using different devices, different connection types and running it 100% stock. In all instances...

Compact unit with a number of additional ports and features not found in comparable Android TV devices ; Updated Android OS versions

Stablity issues ; Poor quality materials / construction
