Philips 170X7F / 190X7F

A decent monitor if you prefer a traditional shape. A striking screen with features such as HDCP support. Image quality helps justify the price.

Philips' use of quantum dots means near-perfect color, but budget pricing means budget quality.

Great image quality and adjustability, and the sensor works well, but at this price it'll be a while before you make any savings.

Philips 241B7Q 24"

For the money, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more complete IPS monitor than either of these Philips models. The image quality is great on both and that stunning design immediately marks them out from the crowd. Both come highly recommended.

Philips 140S

LCD monitor prices are dropping, but are still two or three times the cost of equivalent CRTs. The Philips 140S offers a 14.1-inch display -- the same size you'll find on today's high-end notebooks -- and has an estimated street price of AU$1,399.

Philips 150X

The speakers in the base and the curvy silver-and-black case would nicely complement a home system, but the 150X loses its appeal when you consider the high price and middling image quality.
